To record, preserve and celebrate the rich history of Moonshining in East Tennessee, the original "VALUE ADDED" product.Located on the White Lightning Hwy.
We are located in Morristown Tennessee and are fortunate that the building we purchased and renovated is at the junction of the Newly designated White Lightning Highway of Main St. and Buffalo Trail/Cumberland Street. This is the location drivers coming or going north to Kentucky or south to N. Carolina could go to or from west for Knoxville or East for Johnson City.
The Building has three floors of 4,000 sq ft each to use for this project .
The second floor was previously used as Higher Grounds Coffeehouse in a earlier incarnation. During that time many people came in to proudly share their stories of family and or acquaintances that took part in the moonshine trade in East Tennessee.Shiners Makers & Movers purpose is to record, preserve and celebrate the rich history of Moonshining in East Tennessee. Documenting the stories and remembrance of the people and families that produced and transported this much sought after " value added " product. These "outlaws" were many times simply skilled craftsman that converted excess corn they raised into a product easier to transport to market ( moving gallons of shine was much easier than the cumbersome bushels of corn ). As well as automobile mechanics or drivers that perfected so skillfully their transport methods, that as an offshoot an entire sport was created( NASCAR ) . Their lawlessness more a product of their refusal to pay a tax and follow laws they felt unjust making even the production of Moonshine illegal.
