It is a perfect museum to visit if you are remotely interested in maritime history or that of Maine's. Great exhibits throughout the property that are engaging for visitors.
We should have gotten an earlier start…so much fabulousness to take in! We spent a little time inside the main building and then it was time to take the boat trip up the Kennebec past the Bath shipyard with two guides keeping us informed of the history of shipbuilding in Bath and pointing out what we were seeing around us…wonderfully done by these guides. After docking we did visit 2 of the original buildings on site and plan to return later in the week to continue taking in all the exhibits. It is a first class museum!
The Maine Maritime Museum was so much more than I expected. There are 6 working buildings on 3 or 4 acres that are in daily use building, restoring and displaying historical boats. Includes a blacksmith shop, sail loft, carpentry shop, boat displays the list goes on. The main museum is an incredible display of maritime history, historical pictures, ship parts, maritime stories, maritime trailblazers and the building and use of ships for centuries. You don't have to love ships to love this museum. A ticket allows 2 days to see everything... and you'll need it.. AND there are cruises that show the Kenebec River and historical points of interest.
Super friendly, super knowledgeable folks cruising you along the Kennebec River showing off lighthouses, wildlife bald eagles and the Bath Iron Works. Very cool museum as well. Recommended during a visit to Bath.
A must-see on the Maine coast. The main building has thoughtful, informative exhibits, well-placed to make the most of a small-medium space. It's artful as well, with rotating displays. The curators are obviously talented. There are also a half dozen out buildings with lots of info about shipyard functions, a 2-story Lobsterman museum, and even a playground. The two best parts are the full size minimalist statue of the tall ship, Wyoming be sure to take the free tour or listen to it on an app, and the boat tour of the harbor extra $$, but worth it. Use the very clean bathrooms or have some refreshments on the on-premesis food and snack shack. A nice way to spend an informative and delightful short afternoon. Plenty of parking. Gift shop is very good.
Love the boat ride....it was a beautiful day! This is actually my 2nd time visiting. Museum is very interesting Don't forget to ring the bell after the boat ride!
Very interesting. The downside was that, despite opening at 9:30am, there were a number of things not yet open or operational, like the Donnell house opened at 11am and many of the video monitors.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$16–20

The Maine Maritime Museum is an amazing, unexpected pleasure and is definitely worth a stop on any trip to Bath. I'm guessing if you live in Bath, this is a must for anyone who has kids or loves boats as well. This is a nice sized campus with a main museum building with a bunch of exhibits and a bunch of other buildings which take you through the process of building a schooner. November of 2022 is free admission which was a very nice surprise, but even regular admission is worth the price this is one of the few museums left on earth where kids up to high school age can actually get in free! The staff is amazingly nice and knowledgeable. The location is basically perfect with a wonderful setting right on the river. This is a museum that is someplace I'll never forget and it is well worth a visit!
Loved this place! It's HUGE! So big the give u a 2 day pass to go over everything. Boat tour is a must!!!
