Makom’s mission is to ignite Jewish connection, purpose and experience by creating a new kind of Jewish community.
Makom in Hebrew means place. At Makom, we are creating a ‘place’ for self-identified suburban Jews to find a community – a ‘place’ to meet our emerging, diverse and non-traditional Jewish needs. Makom creates sacred space through the power of the community rather than through the permanence of a single building. We create sacred space in multiple places.
We focus on Jewish identity and cultural exploration, meaningful worship, intentional learning, social outreach and action, connection to Israel, collaborative partnership between clergy and community engagers.
MakomNY pioneers a new kind of Jewish community, creating an intergenerational model that meets suburban Jews where they are by igniting meaningful experiences and intentional relationships while helping people to flourish, with Judaism as the vehicle for that flourishing.
