Fantastic military museum. Wouldn’t have guessed, all things considered, but this is a lovely display of military power that has been part of the landscape in northern Montana for decades. Definitely worth a visit if you’re interested in military history. One thing to note, however, is that this is behind the gates of a military installation, so you will need to contact the museum director for access if you don’t already have a CAC or other means of entry. The only reason that I gave it four stars is because the facility isn’t always open when the sign says it’s supposed to be. Went by twice before closing time and the curator had already left.
The Malmstrom Museum is on an active base, so you will need to check in at the visitor station first to gain access to the museum. It also advised to call ahead to make sure Rob the curator is there as he is a one man show. The museum is small but provides a great deal of information about the bases mission on operating the minute man 3 strategic defense missile system. Rob shared a lot of history of the base and was patient with kids and their questions as we toured the inner displays. The air park has a few static aircraft to check out in of the different aircraft that once used the base. An interesting fact on the base is in WWII the Soviets came to get aircraft as part of the lend lease act.
If you're not military, you need to go to the visitors center near the entrance to need a pass, but it's free and a cool museum about what they do on Malmstrom. The models are especially cool and the history was interesting. Definitely a stop for an air and space nerd!Visited onWeekdayWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree

Was stationed here 1976 - 1979. Best assignment I ever had. This was before the museum had the quality it does now. This is a great stop for any non-military. Great display
Very disappointed - we were denied entry Canadians residents We showed up on visitor center 30 min before they open, because we saw on website it takes time to process the entrance. As a Canadian resident we brought our valid drivers license as it says on the website and our valid passports. So, just a big NO, because we are not Americans and they need day or two to process our entry. No more details. Just no entry allowed. We drove 6hrs, booked a hotel in Great Falls just to visit the museum, very frustrating :
A must for military fans. Model airplane display is worth the visit. The museum host is awesome .
I have interest in aviation and military, so this museum was intriguing. My co-worker and I were given a guided tour, with a well informed guide, elaborating on every exhibit. The displays and information on the missile defense system was better than I have seen anywhere else. The planes on exhibit are well maintained and presented. Highlight recommend taking an hour or two to see this place.
The planes are beautiful and wonderful to behold. However gaining access to this museum requires you to submit your I.D. Have your pointer fingers scanned digitally. A photo of yourself taken. Wait about 30 minutes for the military, yes military to scan your I.D. Before they allow you entry. Upon which you have to be escorted directly to the museum before you are allowed to admire the planes. As a Canadian this process was easier. If you live outside of North America they will hold your passport for 72 hours before you are gained entry. Which I saw denied of A Swiss family which to me seems ironic. They're a neutral country.
A guy on a base with a Camera was complaining about a 30 minute wait to see the museum. It amazes me an area that shot missiles at Russia and was the U.S. first line of defense is so sheltered he doesn't understand the danger of them. The museum is great and the AFB is extremely nice also. I can't think of too many Air Force Bases that are not nice though.
