Well, we went off the beaten “north/south” route of Hwy 281, to find Mama’s. A four overall. Not pictured, we’re my wife’s wings which were fresh but battered and fried, which is a disappointment as I just done think battered wings hold up to sauce. This is likely known by kitchen as the sauce was served on the side when delivered. The Onion Rings were impressive and my 1/2 lb patty melt was moist and juicy but not greasy, so BRAVO. Nice that sweet potato fries were lightly seasoned with salt and cinnamon. Delicious! And finally the Texas Sheet Cake, seemed to be made in house, but I believe the icing/frosting was premade and not blended by “mama”. Service was friendly and prompt and it had a laid back rustic feel, which I liked. Well worth the 0.4 mile drive and absolutely superior to any of the “chain” gang of usual suspects.
Great service down to earth and forthcoming. Food was good home cooking, I think the food could have used a bit more spice or salt and pepper, but its not a deal breaker. The fried green beans were very good, fried jalapeno slices were very good as well. Main course chicken fried chicken with mashed and creamed corn was pretty good. A little disappointed with the cucumber & tomato salad, the cucumbers were big chunks and all the peel was left on made it taste a little bitter and chewy. The oil and vinaigrette could have been a little better as well.
Tuck in here for the lunch specials or, if you’re so inclined go out back to the “yard” to partake of happy hour and live music. Do not miss the cakes and pies. This place is like a mullet haircut, business in front, party in the back!
As a Cajun chef I can tell you hands-down this made my top five of chicken fried steaks. Rhonda my server did an amazing job and I highly recommend this restaurant. Couldn't reply to owner but I asked my waitress Rhonda to surprise me with her favorite dessert and when I got back to my campsite, It was the Whiskey Pecan Pie. WOW it was on point as well. Just happened to have some cold milk in my Yeti to wash it down. I passed out after that meal and used it for fuel for my 4 hour mountain bike ride at Reville Peak Ranch
Here's the thing, I wanted to like this place. The service was quite good, we were treated well and the tables and chairs were comfortable enough. The lighting was cold white, stark, and industrial, which doesn't matter that much, but adds to the rating. On to the food. The dinner rolls were tasty enough, but whatever the spread provided was, it wasn't butter. The BLT was served on an inverted hamburger bun, the bacon was a strange mix of either over or under done, and the lettuce was wilted. The chicken fried chicken was dripping grease, the chicken itself was of very poor quality and the gravy was the consistency of watered-down hand soap, though it was battered and fried pretty well, the coating didn't stick at all. The creamed corn was far too thick, like pudding, and obviously sweetened, which made it interesting, but not tasty enough to finish. In short, if you want sub-mediocre food at just-above-national-chain prices, this is your place. The potential here is staggering and it's being wasted on an outdated menu with inferior ingredients
Passed up many places to eat before seeing this place. Very glad I turned around and decided to walk in. Mandy, my waitress, provided friendly and prompt service. The food was even better. I ordered the patty melt with onion rings for the main course, fried pickles as an appetizer and the peanut butter pie for dessert. I strongly recommend all or any if you decide to stop in for a bite.
Food and service were both very good. I had the meatloaf and will be back to try the other menu options.Food: 4/5
I really wanted to like this place. My reviews are just my experience and my honest opinion. The reviews really had me excited but I was actually really disappointed. The custom service was decent but the presentation of the food was great. The mozzarella sticks were beautiful but NO flavor and the inside was cold. I ordered chicken strips had 0 flavor. Literally fried with flour and flour only. The mashed potatoes were watery, no butter, salt , pepper NOTHING. Everything was very plain. They served us cold and stale complementary rolles, however my daughter got a cheese burger and that was actually pretty good but it's pretty hard to mess up a burger. Mac n cheese was also pretty good after I added salt and pepper. Prices were decent but the food was so bad I felt ripped off. Very disappointed
I went here with my family yesterday because my Dad has been wanting to try it. When you walk in you get that small hometown welcome feel. We ordered the Chicken fried chicken, Chicken friend steal, Cheeseburger and the Saturday special - Chicken Parmigian. I was more than pleased with the special, very delicious and I HIGHLY recommend trying it. My sister said burger didn't have much flavor. Service was good. Our waitress was friendly. The only bad things I have to say would be about the bread & drinks. If the bread was served warm I think it would have tasted better. My Mom had a frozen margarita, my sister and I had Mexican Martinis. The Mexican Martinis tasted very watered down with a hint of sweetness. I wouldn't order it again. Overall the experience was a good one and it's worth giving this place a try!
This was an ok spot. Not good, not bad. The staff seem like they'd rather be anywhere else, but their actual service is prompt. The food is ok, the home cooking should be taken littoral as you can easily produce the same quality in the same amount of time at home. The establishment was fairly clean, and the seating was spaced apart normally. The booth doesn't allow larger people any comfort. Which is now fairly normal no matter where you go. Overall, I wouldn't speak ill of this place, but I wouldn't sing its praises.
