Two-story library in the heart of Manhattan Beach with ocean views, children, teen & adult areas, Wi-Fi. Part of the County of Los Angeles Public Library.
The Manhattan Beach Library is now open! The grand opening of our new, larger, modern building was May 1, 2015. Please come to visit the two-story library with beautiful ocean views!
The Manhattan Beach Library started as a subscription library in 1910 thanks to the Neptunian Women’s Club of Manhattan Beach which will celebrate its 105th anniversary in 2015. The library became part of the County of Los Angeles Public Library system in January 1915, making it one of the oldest libraries in the county system. The library moved into its first location in a separate library building in 1957, and into its present building on November 1, 1975.
The library serves a population of over 35,000, in a 3.87 square mile area stretching from the beach eastward. The city is home to many sports and entertainment stars, and the annual Manhattan Beach Volleyball Open, Hometown Fair, Charlie Saikley Volleyball Tournament and many other events.
