Providing Cosmetology Education since 1909

Description

Mansfield Beauty Schools has a history dating back to 1909 at 125 Tremont Street, Boston. The founder, Dr. Katherine Mansfield, was a practicing chiropodist who on a pleasure trip to Paris, France, had been exposed to innovations in hairdressing. Upon her return, she started giving demonstrations and lectures. Thus, the humble beginnings of Mansfield Beauty Schools. We have as our principle objective the training of an entry level position and the preparation for state licensure in the field of Cosmetology and Manicure. We prepare and expect our students to enter upon, progress in, and make a contribution to the Cosmetology and Manicure industry.

In order to maintain our position in the forefront of cosmetology education, our policy remains one of involvement and participation in the Massachusetts Association of Cosmetology Schools, the American Association of Cosmetology Schools, the Massachusetts Financial Aid Association, and the National Direct Student Loan Coalition.

I transferred to this school from another school where I had a terrible experience, so when I can here I had no idea what to expect. I’m happy to say I had the complete opposite experience here. The educators are great, and staff truly cares about their students. I liked that the classes weren’t overcrowded so if I needed help, I didn’t feel ignored or rushed. My classmates were very nice, and the majority of clients are very sweet and have been coming here for a long time. Overall I’m happy with my decision to go here, and to finish my cosmetology education in such a positive environment.
I should have wrote this a long time ago. But it's exceptionally true to my nature to be "better late than never". So on my 1 year anniversary of graduating from Mansfield, here it goes... I started my journey with Mansfield when I was 17 years old. I graduated when I was 34. To no fault but that of my own. Life throws curve balls, and I was hit with many. Janice and the staff at Mansfield NEVER gave up on me. I am eternally grateful for their constant support and encouragement to finish the program. I was not an easy student. With the years of experience the staff here has, they had the ability to work with me and help me achieve my dreams. I would highly recommend this school to anyone looking for education in cosmetology, especially passing your boards. Cosmetology school is designed for just that, and this is Mansfield's mission. Thank you Janice and Karen for sticking by my side and never giving up on me.
I interviewed and toured the school then talked to my stylist. My stylest said that if she had it to do over, she would have gone to the most affordable school because they all teach to the test. After when you go to work the salon has you restudy their techniques so it doesn't matter. I would take her advice and go to Mansfield because it is the most affordable in the Boston area.
I went to this school for about 5 months of my cosmetology education. I will start off by saying that the staff is so unprofessional and unethical. The tools and kit I got was terrible the quality was terrible. I learned quickly I had to put my name on absolutely everything as a lot of my tools were stolen during school. I won’t get too into detail with my story but I recommend you DEFINITELY go in for a tour ask to see the ENTIRE learning facility. Ask you see what you will be receiving in your kit and make your decision based off that. This school was NOT worth my presence as a student or as an individual or my money. I should not have stepped one foot in this school to begin with but I’m happy my career/education took me somewhere much better where I was much happier. My advice is to Know your worth as a student and as a future professional. Go to a school that will suit you and give you the education and tools you need to go as far as you want to go in your career. This is my opinion based on my terrible experience here. You as an individual have the choice and power to pick where your future and profession will lead you. After leaving I transferred into a new school which placed me into a great job. Gave me PLENTY of opportunities education and job wise. Plenty of products and tools to work with. As a GRADUATED cosmetologist I will tell you YOUR education means everything in your career.
I asked for the most easiest hair style. One length. The right side came out shorter than the right. The students looked like they had no interest in being there. There was no instructor or teacher to check on there work. It was terrible. The students talked and laughed and made faces the whole time. Girl with blonde hair that was “checking” peoples hair was a joke. She took everything as a joke. The person who cut my hair looked so miserable. Again.. my hair came out soooo uneven.. thank you so much.. worst beauty school ever. The place looks dirty too.. you wanna ask why I didn’t just leave? Giving the students a chance was a mistake. If you wanna let students practice and put trust into them go to Toni and Guy! Mansfield is garbage! Thanks for ruining my hair.
I've been going here since I was 8, 20+ years. The new staff is so rude. I just went in and the lady smiles at me and says nothing. It's not until 5pm on the button that she comes over to the 5th person to come in and tells him they only have one student so they're only taking these two lady's. I don't mind them only having one student and not being able to take me. But don't keep walking by smiling at me and then not even tell me you're not taking me. PS, I was actually there before the second lady. The first lady held her spot or some nonsense. Doesn't matter tho. With staff that rude, never again.
The worst place ever, specifically the lady with curly hair that seems to arrange things there, was really unprofessional and didn't have the minimun ethic how to treat the customer. I made a phone call a day before to schedule an appointment and they said you can walk in at any time but when I went there around 11, curly hair lady said we are going for lunch break now.... This was the second time bad experience with her there. Lazy and unprofessional people, also dirty place. Definitely I don't recommend it.
The instructors are great. Administration is terrible. They only care about profits and will not work with you. Refuses to honor payment plan reflected in handbook and bad mouths loan company to cover for their incompetent laziness. It’s not the fault of prospective students that you had to cut your class size due to covid, you should honor. Attached is a page from their handbook but according to administration they don’t offer nor honor any type of loans.
Don't ever go here for a pedicure...They charge $15.00 for a bucket of cold water while you sit in a corner and have to put your foot on the student's knee for your polish. There is nothing about this filthy place I could say is positive....
Good Luck on the new Apprentice Program my mother had her hair cut this week students are outstanding the energy in the school is fabulous congratulations!
