Since 1913, Marathon Electric has developed a reputation for conservative motor designs and highly engineered products used in a vast array of commercial and industrial applications around the world.
Marathon Electric’s rich history began with the simple idea to diversify the local economy. A group of local businessmen in 1913, known as the Wausau Group, embraced a proposal by two Westinghouse Electric employees, salesman E. M. Bischoff and design engineer Justin Lebovici, to establish the Marathon Electric Company. This synergized with the Wausau Group’s mission to transform the area’s economy from a declining lumber town into a thriving little city.
Marathon motors powering the pumps for the Panama Canal, commissioned in the 1920s, are still in use. You’ll also find them operating the elevators in the Sears Tower in Chicago. Look at the ski lifts at Granite Peak and you may still find Marathon Electric motors. Marathon generators are providing electric power on land and sea throughout the world.
We will live our values, demonstrating integrity in all our actions. We will function with a high level of personal energy, energizing those around us. We will have the courage to make difficult decisions and execute to accomplish our vision.
