At the end of September, 2022, on my way to Canada, I decided to spend the night in the Ottawa National Forest, at Marion Campground. There were a few loops… and as far as I remember, I did not see any other campers, all campsites were vacant! Since I was planning to spend only one night there, it did not matter what kind of campsite I got—eventually, I picked site number 15 N46° 16.017' W89° 05.100', with a lake-view not that it made a difference! It was getting dark & raining and I reluctantly set up the tent as quickly as possible, then spent some time in the car reading something and finally sneaked into the tent and quickly fell asleep. Just in case I had 2 cans of bear spray with me, but nothing disturbed me. I'm sure it's a very nice campground in the summer and many campsite are very close to the lake.
A several mile drive on gravel roads off Highway 2 brings you to this sizable rustic campground on a top-tier lake. A portion of this campground is open year-round, the remaining portion is only open during summer. Lakeside sites come in several varieties. Some are flatter to the water, others are higher on a ridge.
If you like campgrounds this one isn't half bad. It's on a fairly scenic lake and there are plenty of other things to do around here if you use it as a base camp. The restrooms and other facilities are fine enough and what you should expect for a Forest Service campground.
Nice place to stay for a couple days. Our site backed up to the lake so we woke to a very peaceful view. It's a little off the track to get to just for an overnight stay, but would be nice for a weekend getaway.
Early in the season half the campground was open. We camped on the lake, nice spacious spots, very easy to back into primitive of course Ottawa national Forest. $16.00 per night. Super clean. Will stay again.
We came across this accidentally as our other camp was full. Absolutely beautiful. We were the only ones in the park and had our choice of spots...we think #11 is the best. Very rustic only outhouses. Our spot was right on the water and in the middle of the forest.
Beautiful lake with super clear water. Lots of camping sites, water and toilet access, and off grid. I'd like to visit again with some more time and a boat.
Very nice and clean. Enjoyed several camping trips. Host was very Nice and helpful. We will definitely be back again
Well maintained camp grounds. Toilets very clean. Lots are good size with a fire pit
