Marquette County Airport

Description

Marquette County Airport is a former airport in Negaunee, Michigan. After the closure of the nearby K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base, the airport was closed and facilities were transferred to Sawyer International Airport. In 2006, the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community proposed moving its Ojibwa II casino from Chocolay Township to the airport site, where it would build a 135000sqft facility. I ripped my infusion set out going through security. I learned I didn't replenish my spare in my carry-on. The TSA agents helped me and got my suitcase and got a new infusion set out for me. I'm super happy and impressed... They totally didn't have to do that. I'm so happy they did though because my trip back home would have been horrible due to high blood glucose. They literally saved me from a potential medical ER. THANK YOU!
Jaime @ our AA gate was an absolute psycho, yelling @ guests, not recognizing who's with who "ASSUMED" the overhead was full when there were 13 open locations available for overhead storage so we were forced to check our bags! If our luggage is lost Jaime will replace any & all damages. She's gotta go, Jaime can NOT multi-task, has ZERO customer service, assumes & makes bad decisions, coworkers CLEARLY hate working with her.. Everyone else was fantastic
Small airport with only 3 "gates". Check-in is fine, but the TSA is ridiculously slow. Vending machines only after security, and I couldn't get it to take my phone payment. Needs a refresh, but I'm sure it won't get one.
Love this airport. Small yet big thanks to it being part of the original K.I. Sawyer Airbase. Larger planes. Easy access into terminal and convenient parking.
Great little airport. Super chill and not that busy compared to most airports. If visiting the UP, it's the best option for flying in or out.
A nice little airport with a friendly staff. The drink machine did not take credit cards when we were there though.
This is the last day I will ever fly out of Marquette or with American. I arrived at the airport hours early and still was unable to check my bags though my connecting flights and ultimately the staff Michelle refused to check my bags. I remained courteous while being treated rudely and very defensively with staff complaining about potential paperwork. I was told to call the airline numbers to address issues instead of being assisted. I ended up having to have someone else ship my bags for me, as if flying isn't expensive enough as it is.
Sawyer is great! Definitely cannot say the same thing about our airline companies!! What a joke! Grrr
Awesome, small town airport. Everyone who works here has always been friendly and helpful. I have flown out of hundreds of airports around the world and Sawyer International MQT and Iron Mountain Airports IMT are without a doubt my favorites. On the food front: there are no restaurants at the airport or within <5 miles, the gift shop offers some small bites and coffee, vending machines are limited. Parking: first two hours are free; max of $5/day after that; ample parking for short term and long term. Planes are small: regional airport with small aircraft--so plan accordingly with baggage; limited size for carry-on; plane-side check is available and convenient. Check-in: small airport seems to require the limited workers to perform a full range of duties, so plan to arrive early enough to check-in without needing to rush. I typically arrive ~55 mins before scheduled departure time.
Staff is limited and unprofessional. Forget getting them to work with you on multiple bookings or your bags. Same staff working security and checking bags. They live off of it being the only option for the area. If you book your tickets seperate they will not connect your bag. Ultimately making you pay the insane shipping rates instead of just bringing your own bags. Way to screw a Christmas ki sawyer and unAmerican airlines.
