Marty’s is awesome. Huge selection of wine, from old world to new world, from a couple bucks up to the top shelf stuff. Load of liquors and beer as well. Tons of interesting snacks as well! The workers are awesome and always looking to help find something. And there always seems to be a tasting event when we go there. Highly recommend!
Oddly enough, I mostly frequent this place for the deli and specialty foods section. They do have a sizable selection for beer and liquor, but prices are often higher than Blanchards over in Allston. With Martignetti's closed for a while now this is the most convenient large liquor store nearby as Gordon's is even more expensive and Wegman's is a bit too far over in Chestnut Hill. Their specialty food section is fantastic though. You can purchase duck breast, an assortment of different fresh, grass fed beef, wagyu burger patties, and more. I often get a variety of those as well as their canned escargot, which I whip up with some pesto and eat with a sliced and toasted baguette. Their deli counter is equally amazing and you can purchase freshly grilled wagyu burgers for $9.99. You can also get a lobster roll for $19.99, which comes full of lobster meat. Definitely recommend.
Fantastic selection of liquors, wines, beer, and even obscure liqueurs that are hard to find elsewhere. Staff is always friendly and polite. Food/snacks look nice too, though a bit pricy.
Please note, my review does not contain information for comparison shopping. My goal was to obtain a specific bottle and I did not have enough time to compare multiple products. My review is based off of two things: staff and selection. When I walked into the store, at least two of the staff members acknowledged me and wished me a good day. As I was checking out, the cashier was polite and also offered additional tissue paper for a gift bag I had purchased. This is all a person could ask for and I appreciated the welcoming feel. Marty's selection was solid. As I mentioned, I was looking for a specific bottle, in this case, rum. The number of stores outside of those that were 30-40 minutes having a bottle were almost non-existent. Marty's selection is expansive and well laid out thanks for the labels rather than me having to check groups of bottles. Overall, just a solid experience from a store that was a manageable distance.
Great selection of beer and wine. I was even able to find a brand from MI that I've never found in the Boston Metro area before. Unlike most liquor stores, they actually have a decent selection of imported German beers.
Very odd service - wanted to buy 4 bottles of wine when store had few customers. It was an on-line offering, they told me I had to go on-line and order it and then wait until the following day to pick it up. I was in the store and ready to buy it. Seemed like they were not interesting in selling me the wine. Rather unusual and poor service.
I miss the convenience of the location in Allston/Brighton but this location has an excellent staff. Very knowledgeable, helpful, and attentive offering suggestions.
I picked up a couple of four packs of craft beer and an Ashton cigar. The beer selection is pretty good, no complaints there. The cigar, which I smoked not long after I left the store was very dry and the wrapper cracked when I used my punch cutter on it. I smoked less than a third of it before it got too acrid due to the dryness. Not good considering the cost of the cigar. I think they need to check the humidity level occasionally.
Marty's in Newton is hands down one of the best spots around. Not only do they carry a phenomenal selection of ALL of their products, but their customer service is absolutely unmatched. My husband and I love to travel and try new wines. Pre-pandemic, we would have wine we enjoyed shipped home. With inflation and rising gas prices, the costs of shipping wine is absurd. We just got back from a trip in Spain, and I gave Marty's a call. They have such immense knowledge and are able to quickly get answers to what I'm looking for and often times, track down what we want! They also carry so many wonderful local products, and have donated gift cards and other items to various fundraisers and charitable events. This place is an absolute GEM.
The whisky selection is excellent. I was ambushed by a couple extra bottles
