Mary S. Byrd Gallery of Art is located at the Department of Art, Augusta University, Washington Hall, 2500 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30904
The mission of Mary S. Byrd Gallery of Art is to explore and exhibit contemporary visual art and research in all media produced by the most distinguished and relevant contemporary artists today. As such, it aims to serve as a component in enhancing the university’s culture of creativity, innovation, and excellence. Through the direct experience of art, students discover how art is the foremost vehicle to foster the self-discovery, problem solving, and collaborative skills needed by leaders in the world of today. Looking beyond the aesthetic functions of art, the vibrant exhibition program aims to examine the cultural, social, political or economic context that informs the work on display. An active visiting artists program complements the exhibits allowing students and visitors to engage with distinguished visiting artists, critics and thinkers. The gallery acts as an important link between the Department of Art and Design and the university community (students, scientists, faculty, alumni, patrons), the regional and national arts community and the general public.
