I reside in Phoenix, Arizona, and I located Michael's clock restoration business through an on-line search. I'm very happy I choose him to restore my clock. He was easy to communicate and work with. I shipped my 120-year old Seth Thomas mantel clock for a complete overhaul. The result included a beautifully cleaned and expertly regulated clockwork, carefully polished case adamine, and sparkling like-new restoration of the brass work. He even arranged for an artist to restore an elaborate artistic scene on the clock case that had suffered the ravages of time. Michael kept me fully informed with descriptions, alternatives, pricing, and status updates at every step of the way. I feel very fortunate that Michael restored my clock, which has been in my family since 1900, when my grandfather presented it to my grandmother on their wedding day. Now it should be good for another 120 years!
Very professional. Helpful beyond just fixing my heirloom grandfather clock. Michael taught me the maintenance and care needed for the clock, I wasn't even aware of. Competitively priced and so much more value in the service call than I'm sure one would get with another repair/service person. Believe all the great reviews! Worth the wait and worth the money! I have enlisted 9 clocks to Mr. Gainey for repair over the past three years. In each case, he was very communicative about the needs of each clock, the options for repair and the costs involved. Having these clocks back in working order, in some cases working better than ever, has been a great joy. Antique clocks are a mix of pleasure when they are working and then angst when they aren't, especially in finding someone with a broad base of knowledge and the experience to implement that service. The fact that I keep returning to his shop for service nearly 400 miles round trip speaks to the level of trust and confidence I have in his skills and abilities. I was very pleased with the precautions taken during the worst of the Covid-19 pandemic that allowed his work to continue while minimizing the risk to his customers.
The owner and his son are very knowledgeable and I would recommend them to anyone. The sign of how good they are is how busy they are. I have a 60-year-old black forest cuckoo clock that was on its last legs from wear and tear when I inherited it. In about 10 years since them repairing/restoring it, I've had it in only for minor adjustments and to have the regular maintenance oiling done, their work is that good. I HIGHLY recommend these guys and would trust my clock with no one else.
Mike Gainey is a craftsmen beyond compare! He took our clock that has been in our family for four generations and restored it to its original beauty. What wasn't in his realm of expertise clock faces, he sent to other craftsmen as competent as he. The clock that came back to us once again marks our time with its lovely chimes. Its beautiful body, though well over 100 years, now stands tall and shining as if returned to its youth. What a gift!
Mike was very good at setting this up,very dusty, took apart so we could blow out, oil all parts to work again . Clock been not operating for 2yrs.Before he left seems to be all good.Explained EVERYTHING, didnt realize there is that much to know,but he covered it. I highly recommend him ,very professional, Thank you
