Loved this store! Staff is super friendly. They provide custom quilt sewing services too!
Nice place. Neat and organized!! Not a huge selection of fabrics. Wish they had more samples up with kits. Clerks were really nice and friendly. Supporting these small stores is important to me!!
All the ladies at the shop are very nice and helpful. I just went and picked up our Double Wedding Ring quilt that my MIL took 3 years to make. Its perfect! Marilyn quilted it for us. I wanted her opinion on the right quilting pattern and she sent me pictures to choose from. The communication between them and customers is amazing! I am beyond happy with the quilt. I would recommend them for any fabric or quilting needs. We will be continuing our patronage of this business!
Excellent place for all my quilting needs! Great selection of fabrics and expert help with any questions I have.
I have started using Material Girl since it has changed hands. I was not fond of the former owner's demeanor. Now there are people who like to help. I recently took a day long class on walking foot quilting. There was a lot to learn that I didn't know could be done with that little piece of machine gadgetry. We had an excellent instructor who was very knowledgeable and patient with us. I hope to take more classes there.
I've shopped in here probably 14 times over the past 3 years and I love their fabric choices. However, the staff in the store treat you as if you're invisible. I was in there last week for 25 minutes and not one staff member even greeted me, let alone asked if I needed help with anything! which I did. And this is not a new experience - it's the way it always is in there, as if you coming into shop is an interruption to what the staff is already doing, which seems to be much more engaging and interesting to them than you. If I were the owner of this store, I'd do some serious staff training and teach them the basics of customer service. It's extremely off-putting and I've decided to look elsewhere.
Though this store has an interesting selection of fabrics, albeit limited, and classes are offered, and it is a clean store, I feel that I need to clarify the low rating I have given this store. The staff at this store, and particularly the owner have been consistently dismissive and RUDE. Several times, over the past 3 years, I have come in with quilting friends, and it has been the same attitude and environment. I live in Crystal Lake, and try to patronize our downtown CL community often. It is with regret that I will not patronize a shop where customers are treated with an attitude of annoyance by staff. There are many wonderful quilt shops in McHenry County, and I highly encourage you to travel the distance to explore them. I guarantee, it will be a more welcoming experience.
I love everything about this store! It is one of my highlights of visiting Crystal Lake. Their selection of fabrics is delightful and different from what I am able to find elsewhere, the staff is friendly, helpful and does not hover! What more could you ask for?
Haven't been there for a while. But still my favorite quilting store. The new owner was very nice and Lisa that helped me was super. Love the new look of the store.
Bought a charm packwhich I paid full price for at first I couldn't understand why it was cut so strange only two sides were straight cut but since I didn't know any better I just sewed the new charm pack in with the rest of my charm packs only to find out the ones I bought were a different size then my original packs. No one could understand why the pack was cut so strange so I went back and asked only to find out that my charm pack was probably a layer cake that wasn't selling so they cut it to make charm packs in hopes of selling. Not a fan of this practice especially since I got no warning of this. So in order to get my squares even I had to trim my original squares down by almost a 1/4 inch. I don't think I'll be buying charm packs and such from them again
