"Promoting the Learning of Advanced Mathematics in Urban Schools"
The increasing importance of math literacy combined with the widening achievement gap between more privileged school children and urban school children in Boston have created the need for MathPOWER. The goals of the organization are to equalize the quality of educational opportunities for all youth and promote advanced mathematical learning in urban schools.
MathPOWER is dedicated to taking a comprehensive approach to developing both proficiency in advanced mathematics and personal resiliency as vehicles to bring about transformational change in the lives of urban youth. Our mission isn't just about students succeeding in math; it is about launching students on successful paths to pursue and complete a post-secondary education. MathPOWER envisions a world in which all students achieve competency in advanced mathematics which serves as a gateway to lifelong learning and a productive career.
MathPOWER offers three services to serve the community's need for advancement in mathematics. All of MathPOWER's Programs are designed to reverse the growing failure rate of students who struggle to grasp the fundamental mathematical concepts covered in grades K- 9.
