Be very careful when leaving your kids. Caught an employee who said he was one of the directors looking in the bathroom stall at my 5 years old son. He claimed he was "checking on him.". After speaking to a few other parents they shared similar complaints about the individual.
I hate when Mattoon beats Charleston at things. It really dose cause me pain but ya they win in the kids library division.
Our library is fantastic! The staff are always helpful, the place is so well kept, and there are Plenty of books. I can always find what I need. I mostly go in to print off papers at one of their computer/printers .25 cents per copy. But, on the 2nd floor they have a big kids area with children's books, toys, cozy kids chairs, tables, and papers/crayons to color! My kids 3 and 6 love it! Also, there is a basement they rent out for small gathers, bday parties, meetings, etc.
I have always loved the Mattoon Public Library. Today I enjoyed taking my Grandson there. They are always friendly and helpful. My Grandson will enjoy taking part in the Summer Reading Club, starting June 7.

A Wonderful place. I absolutely love going to the library on almost a daily basis because of the environment and also because of the people. The staff are an absolute joy to be around. All of the staff are accommodating and make sure to get you exactly what you need within reason. The fines are low and even when you accumulate a large fine they make sure that you are aware of the options and programs available to you to help decrease your fines. They have a wonderful selection of new and old books, movies and magazines. They also provide laptops for you to browse the internet. Also available to you are audio books, either on cd or via an mp3 player. I recommend highly to anyone to go to the library and have a wonderful experience!
Young kid has a lot of fun in the upstairs kid section. A great resource for our community. When they don't have a book, they are very willing to bring it in from another source.
A great place to utilize. I have taken grandchilren to the Library since they were young. It's so important in their learning process.
Friendly staff, nice clean building, lots of books!!!
Beautiful Library..Staff is very helpful and polite..If they don't have it the can get it!!
