Campsites are a little close together and ours was only partly shaded but it’s beautiful! Small lake where you can swim, rent kayaks. We walked the trail that surrounds the lake, Tamarack 2mi, every morning. Lots of kids, dogs, and foot traffic during the weekend : We didn’t drink the water but used it for fires. There’s 24 hr firewood dispenser, as well. About 15 minutes from Kewaskum, the closest town. Check out the Coffee Corner Bistro, the staff was so great. Iced teas, specialty drinks, and treats were delicious.
We had site 101, secluded, near the bathroom and lovely! Great place for families! We backpacked in and spent one night. ZERO RUNNING WATER AND TRASH RECEPTACLES ARE IN ONE SPECIFIC AREA. Be prepared to get water as you find it and hold on to your trash till you journey to find it. Playground: Has a slide and sling swings Restrooms: Not stinky and not flushy Picnic area: Lots of picnic tables
One of the best state park campgrounds I have ever been too! Close enough to home but feels like you are miles away. Has all the amenities!
Disappointment doesn't even begin to describe what it feels like. Fishing pier is gone with no sign to state it was going to be replaced. The trail itself is in a dismal state of disrepair. I have never in my 46 years of coming here have seen it this BAD. so many dead trees are everywhere. Pine trees marked for the chainsaw after it was just majorly thin out. It's a dying park, and it is obvious no one cares, not even the forestry headquarters that are on the grounds. Money spent on the story trail most definitely could have gone elsewhere.
Mauthe Lake is a beautiful location in the Northern Kettle Moraine State Park. Hiking, swimming & canoeing are my favorite activities when I visit.
Good clean campsites, restrooms and showers. The beach area is both family-friendly and well-designed for big gatherings. The trail around Mauthe Lake is relatively flat and without tripping hazards good for all ages, and the scenery is well worth the trip!
The 2 mile trail around the lake is perfect for a short hike on a hot day. The beach was pretty crowded but we found an area away from everyone. Our campsite 549 was great but a bit far from the bathrooms. The water is turned off lots of places which is unfortunate for filling bottles on hot days but we found one by the pit toilets- the blue one was off but there’s a brown box with a faucet that is on. No one was wearing masks in the bathrooms or in large groups but we’re vaccinated and wore masks when in crowded areas.
Most of the sites including the electric ones, especially in the back areas, are pretty small. Lots of poison ivy and mosquitoes. Nice beach area, fishing spots, and playground. Decent hiking in the area, including an IAT section. Well maintained bathroom and shower facilities.
Great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors! Our favorite part is the path around the lake. We didn't hit the beach this time but have always enjoyed our stay! The pit bathrooms were clean and always had TP, can't complain about that!
Lots of room on the beach, even more room beyond in the grass. Easy to get to the beach from the campground. A variety of campsites, most have adequate privacy. 100s are closet to the beach, 300s are closest to the showers and restrooms. Almost all sites are wooded. Upper 500s are next to an open field and also closest to the ice age trail.
