DON'T bring your baby here. I've had multiple horrible experiences here. They were extremely rough with my newborn and picked her up without supporting her head at all! She is normally a very content and happy baby, barely even fusses. I've never heard her scream and cry like she did in that office, it was absolutely heartbreaking as a mother. They also have a rude attitude every time I've been in and treat me like I'm a bad mother or doing something wrong because my daughter has been gaining weight slowly. I'd give 0 stars if I could, save yourself the trouble and take your baby to unity point
I have had multiple bad experiences with this company and could go on all day. To put things simply and bluntly, McFarland is in the business of money primarily and healthcare secondarily. If you have the option, do your research and look up other options and only use them as a last resort. This will save you time, money, physical and emotional health.
I have always had good experiences with McFarland clinic along with Mary Greeley, I've been coming to this clinic since I was a kid for general medical needs and everyone has always been super kinda and pleasant. Even one time when I was misbilled for a visit I still got it sorted fast and easy.
Billing has been TERRIBLE this past year. I have a $20 copay for every office visit. Our baby was in and out of the clinic for RSV/Respiratory Infections/ear infections a lot this spring & everytime I asked them about paying my copay & everytime the response was "looks like you don't have one" fast forward a couple months later, I now have a $200 bill ALL for my $20 copays for those office visits. One lady @ express care said she fixed it, but I was just in last week & they said "nope, no copay" and I said I ALWAYS have an office copay. I'm getting tired of this, fix your system and take my money when i'm offering to pay it instead of hounding me for it a few months later. I can easily pay my bill in one increment, but if they want to refuse my copays at the time of service, they can wait for my money to come. Also, the new thing is when you get a referral to a speciality and don't schedule, they call you a few days before the appointment to remind you of your upcoming appointment YOU DIDN'T SCHEDULE. Frustrating! But, that messes up their schedule and that's their fault for scheduling a person, they have never talked to! I will call to schedule with you when I am ready, stop scheduling for me and not informing me of it. I'm getting real tired of McFarland, I really wish a Unity Point would come into town.
Went here for a covid test and got a bill in the mail for $200. You are better off anywhere else. UPDATE 8/30: I was refunded my money back out of nowhere. Changing from 1 star to 4 for this. Thank you!
They only give you over the counter advice. Save your money and just go to your local pharmacy. Had a 104 fever with Covid and they did nothing for me even when I requested.
I had to have lab work done at the McFarland Clinic in Ames, and I was very pleased with my experience. The receptionist at the lab was very pleasant to me and the other patients waiting to have their blood drawn. Most importantly, the phlebotomist who drew my blood was kind and professional. I was impressed with my experience with both the receptionist and the phlebotomist.
McFarland misbilled my mother's account by $80. She was charged $80 more than what should have been billed for services for non-hodgkins cancer treatment. My mother aquired Co-V2 virus after she completed the maintenace portion of her care her cancer doctor never told her to wear a mask after her cancer treatments ended according to her discharge instructions and she acquired Co-V2 virus after having cateract surgery following her last cancer treatment. The billing office did not offer condolences upon learning of my mother's passing, nor did they offer to cut a check for the $80 they over billed. Her daughter is having to ask for reimbursement for the $80 over charge from VISA. Such a shameful attitude from the billing office. The billing representative acted snarky and it WAS their ERROR in medical coding and/or billing. Exercise caution getting services provided here. It's the money they care about--not the patient nor their surviving family members! Patients be wary...be an advocate for yourself and others.
They don't even deserve 1 star. So back in 2014 I had my appendix removed, at the time had no insurance so my bill through Mary Greeley was covered, however didn't know this at the time McFarland will bill you since it's their Doctors...didn't know that, forgot I had a bill, every time I try to make an appt I have to go through business dept. I can only offer to pay X amount right now, they say no....I fell in ice yesterday and neck hurts today, my normal Dr. Doesn't have xray machines so I have to go through McFarland, which I hate because they want money before they schedule me. I get they have a business to run, but you know how much they make? And are greedy over my small bill?? Don't go to McFarland if you have other choices. They are GREEDY and it's unfortunate because they do have equipment and specialized doctors.
Absolutely terrible healthcare operation consistently in every department and every location I've visited over the past ten years living in Ames. Physicians and staff alike are rude and dismissive at every opportunity. I always leave feeling like I haven't received care. I would dump them for good but they literally have a monopoly in Ames and most of the time I have no choice.
