Tough. Rugged. Stylish.
Joey McFarland Designs handcrafted leather gear takes pride in the craftsmanship and quality of the items offered.
Old school craftsmanship, new design.
I choose leather that has character. Each piece is unique as no two hides are exactly the same. What some may consider “imperfections” (brands, holes, scars) I consider beautiful. They are intentionally used in many of the pieces to further enhance their one-of-a-kind nature. Unless otherwise noted, all leather is genuine cowhide and all thread is waxed linen.
Handcrafted in the USA since 1969.
These items are crafted in my (top secret) leather shop/living room. Since 1969 leather work in the living room has been a part of my life. And yes, Mom still has that first Joey McFarland original! From that key case to Dad’s briefcase and my own saddlebags for my first motorcycle, the love of leather gear and the desire to design original functional art has brought me here.
Some patterns are a one off, never to be made again. Lucky you if you get one of those. You can see many items in person in The Artisan Room.
Special Orders? Ask! Most things are possible!
Crafted with passion.
Take a look around, ask questions if you have any and enjoy. Crafting leather into something you can wear, use and enhance your own one-of-a-kind style is not only my job, it’s my passion. Enjoy your Joey McFarland original as much as I have creating it.

A few words about leather care:
Leather doesn't really like prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or high heat. Caring for you new leather depends on how it was finished. Dyed leather can be cleaned with a good quality leather cleaner. Be sure to test in an inconspicuous area first. Dry leather can be rejuvenated with a good quality product designed just for that. Dr Jackson's hide rejuvenator works great as does Leather CPR. Just keep in mind that it very well may darken your leather. Again test first. Don't use any of the above methods on suede or split hide. If you are not sure check with a professional leather cleaner.
Leather can be scratched and in my opinion that only makes it more yours. Wear on leather looks good, giving you an old friend feeling, so don’t stress too much about a scratch or scuff. We all have scars! If it really bothers you matching the dye color may disguise it a little.
Just a few more things:
-If your item is dyed be aware that dye can transfer to you or your clothing. The dye got transferred to the leather so fair is fair right? More likely to happen right after it was made so don’t wear your new white coat with your new black bag!
-If your item has conchos, spikes or some other screw back decorations, I have attached them using locktite to prevent the screws from coming loose. But keep an eye on them. If you do lose one let me know, I may have that style still in stock and would be happy to send it to you.
I hope you enjoy using your new leather gear as much as I have creating it! It was an adventure and a pleasure!
