Named for NASA astronaut Ronald E. McNair, this program prepares qualified undergraduate students for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities. Participants are from underrepresented groups and have demonstrated strong academic potential. We work closely with students accepted into the program as they complete their undergraduate requirements, encourage them to enroll in graduate programs and then track their progress through to the successful completion of advanced degrees. The goal is to increase the attainment of PhD degrees by students from underrepresented groups.
McNair Scholars receive academic counseling, financial aid assistance, mentoring, research opportunities, seminar training, professional skills training, GRE tutoring, and guidance in how to seek admission and financial aid for graduate programs.
Funded by a grant from the US Dept. of Education
The mission of the TAMU-CC McNair Program is to assist in the academic success of low-income, first-generation college students, and students from traditionally under-represented groups. The program strives to increase the participation of such students in doctoral graduate programs.
