Welcome to Mechanicville Kyokushinkai. We practice a Kyokushin Based Karate, under the direction of Tom Flynn, Shihan. Our mindset is to seek what the masters of karate sought, to preserve budo karate to the best of our collective knowledge, with the mind set that budo karate is good for a healthy body and spirit. I firmly believe, that we were born to make mistakes, seek perfection, but not to fake it. Our dojo, understands that only though others will we improve, a spirit of自他共栄given to me by my teachers as “Jita Kyoei”. You may recall that this maxim comes not from Kyokushin but, form Kano Sensei and Judo. I like to think that we should preserve and establish bridges between the budo arts, look to what unites us all. The world is my teacher, and my role as Sempai of the dojo is to proved for a place for learning and developing for all ranks, thus our curriculum goal is to impart life into the functional applications of kihon, and kata practice. While I greatly respect the heritage of Kyokushin Knock-down Fighting, it is no long my focus. I wish to build and attract students who have learned, as I have learned, that they would like to explore the other eighty present of Kyokushinkai. To some this is blasphemy, I to shared this heart some ten years ago, for you I would be happy to direct you to several good dojo’s whose emphasis is Knock-down or MMA.
