Through our annual grants to local arts and culture activities, we improve the quality of life and foster a sense of community in Medford.
Established in 1980, the Medford Arts Council serves to bring high-quality cultural programming to the community. We work to increase public access to Medford’s many cultural assets and promote favorable conditions for our creative economy. On an annual cycle we offer grants to artists, writers, performers, instructors, students, cultural organizations, and others seeking to engage the Medford public. We also help sponsor new public arts and humanities initiatives in Medford. The funds we distribute are an annual allocation from the Massachusetts Cultural Council through their Local Cultural Council (LCC) program. The Council also receives funding from the City of Medford.
The Council funds public events like the Arts Across Medford festival, Circle the Square, and West Medford Open Studios, as well as dozens of concerts, classes, field trips, performances, and other activities in disciplines including dance, theater, music, science, history, literature, craft and design, and the visual arts.
The Medford Arts Council is a city-appointed, volunteer-led agency. We promote excellence, access, education, and diversity in the arts and humanities. We offer grants to artists and organizations in Medford, MA, and we work to support the growth of the arts and the arts community here.
Each year we provide funds to support numerous public activities in Medford in the areas of arts and culture, including concerts, festivals, performances, classes, and school field trips.
The funds we distribute are an annual allocation from the Massachusetts Cultural Council through their Local Cultural Council (LCC) program, as well as annual funds allocated from the City of Medford.
