Mediterranean Bakery & Cafe, Inc.

About

Mediterranean Bakery & Cafe offers a wide selection of specialty and staple food items from all over the world, as well as a wide selection of appetizers, entrees and desserts for immediate consumption or for catering.

Description

Mediterranean Bakery, Inc. was founded in 1977 by the Chway family. Sami, his mother Nadia and his sister Samia had recently immigrated from Lebanon in search of the American dream.

In 1978, the Chway’s were joined by Nadia's brother Sleiman Kysia. Once the business began to thrive, more members of the family joined them, including Sleiman’s sisters Leila Kysia, Sara Kysia Beauleau, and the late Mona Kysia.

They started by hand building a brick oven so they could bake fresh pita bread daily, the authentic way. (Sami had seen a baker do this when he was just 9 years old and had always dreamed of building one himself. Before the oven was built, Nadia would often bake the bread in her own home) Slowly, authentic dishes like hummus, tabouli, stuffed grape leaves and other maza dishes were added to the menu. A catering service was started, offering authentic Lebanese foods, following original, authentic recipes and maintaining the highest quality of ingredients, free of preservatives, regardless of cost. (many are naturally vegan and/or gluten free)

The bakery soon became a meeting place where many old and new Lebanese immigrants met. Christians, Muslims, and Druze began gathering and socializing as if the Civil War in Lebanon that forced them to immigrate had never occurred.

The family prides itself on producing quality homemade foods, providing unique goods, and strives to always quickly respond to the needs of its customers.

For over 40 years, each morning our bakery has been filled with the wonderful smell of fresh pita bread as we restock our shelves with specialty and staple food items from around the world. On any given day, it's overflowing with freshly made baklava, fattier, and spanakopita, as well as European pastries, cakes and cookies.

We welcome your visit to this unique place!
