Melissa M. Prizzi, RN, is a highly-regarded staff registered nurse serving residents of the Carillon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Huntington, New York. She works on a physical rehabilitation unit where she deals with patients of all age groups struggling with a variety of medical conditions. The goal of rehabilitation nursing is to assist individuals with disability and/or chronic illness to attain and maintain maximum function. Melissa has a great team of staff members and mentions that she could not be where she is today without them. Prior to her current endeavors, Melissa served in hospital setting both at Mercy Medical Center as a telemetry nurse and at North Shore LIJ Huntington Hospital as a graduate nurse working on a permit. She also embraced a role as an Instructor educating, motivating, and teaching on the subject of nursing at Achieve Test Prep for almost one year. As a telemetry nurse, she worked with patients requiring special monitoring, including those recently released from ICU. Melissa also was a charge nurse and supervisor in a long-term care facility where she was in charge of supervising the staff members as well as interacting with and assessing the 60 residents on that particular unit. “The thing that motivates me at the start of each day would have to be the belief inside me that I will help change someone’s life today. Whether I am teaching my future RN students or if I am working at the bedside of patients I know when I wake up in the morning I am going to help someone. It may be a student, it may be a patient, or it may even be another colleague or healthcare professional. By knowing ultimately that I may help someone someway or somehow is also a way of knowing that I was placed here and I do have a purpose to fulfill but it may sound strange but by knowing I am helping others ultimately helps me as well,” says Melissa about her motivation to start each day. She states that she loves being a nurse and feels that she was born to become a nurse. For more information about Melissa M.
