Worst hospital I’ve ever been to. Took my son in for a head injury and he had a gash on top of his head that was bleeding a lot. Checked in, sat us down and maybe 10 minutes later someone took us back to triage. My son was visibly shaking due to the pain and they never even asked him if he was okay to walk. Then a nurse comes to triage and says she can take us back. The nurse in triage told her there were no clean rooms and the nurse taking us said that’s okay, she’ll have us wait outside the room while she cleans it. That was the first red flag. That nurse “cleaned” the room by removing the sheet on the bed and putting a new sheet down. Nothing was wiped down, nasty trash still in can, didn’t wipe off or disinfect anything in the room. Asked a couple questions and left saying the doctor would be in shortly. Didn’t offer my son ice. Second red flag is when a resident came in to check on my son by himself hour after we were there-for a head injury. This resident doctor had no clue what he was doing. I have never seen any doctor give an initial exam the way he did and had my son doing odd things to see if he was okay. He also didn’t know the name of the doctor he was working with and kept adding more odd things to his exam. “Tighten your jaw, checking his strength in his arms/hands/legs.” Didn’t offer my son ice or pain reliever. Third red flag, doctor came in around 30-40 minutes after the resident. Asked my son s few questions, looked at his head, then said it wouldn’t require staples or glue. The doctor said that someone would be in to clean it and then get us on our way. Didn’t offer my son ice or pain reliever. Fourth red flag, different nurse came in to discharge my son. Went over paperwork and we left. She did not clean his wound either. Never was my son offered ice or pain reliever. No one cleaned his wound and his hair and scalp were covered in blood. This is poor care of a patient when it’s their job to clean any and all wounds when a patient comes in. Also, head wounds need to be attended to quickly and there’s no reason after being there 1.5-2 hours, that the doctors finally decided to come look at it. It’s beyond disgusting and violates so many health care regulations that the room wasn’t cleaned properly between patients. Those nurses and doctors should be ashamed of themselves, as well as the hospital and those that are in charge of that hospital to be ran like that. I will never be back!!
My faith in Memorial worsens every single visit. I have been a patient. I have also been a visitor. Currently this 2023 has been my worst experience thus far. Not only have in the past we suffered racial discrimination my mother being the patient & i the visitor. But tonight August 8th has been the worst. I have been here for 3 hours in the EL, they have no screen displaying wait times, nor do they offer a friendly service upon arrival to ease one's comfort. I asked if we could wait in the car to be in a more comfortable space since their chairs are metal and sooo STIFF in their waiting are, but the reception nurse or staff with blue har that admits people, very blatantly said "We will not be doing any calls" Okayyy, i get it she could have simply said no, they do not offer a service like Physicians urgent care does with Text messages or calls. She did not need to be so inconsiderate. I did feel like a bother. It has been 3 hours I most likely may have or may have not broken my foot, I'm waiting on Xrays & have no insurance and i am so stressed at this point. But I can see and hear the nurses giggle and laugh. It's irritating due to the fact I assume the memorial administration will say this is due to the hour of day and understaffing. But seriously taking to other people in the waiting area they say they have been here 1-2 hours prior to my arrival. So YES i understand triage. But seriously if you are near Fransican Hospital in La Porte or St Joe just go there. I'm seriously considering leaving broken foot or not just due to the extreme anxiety, discomfort, lack of sleep, and lack of empathy or any sign that there is a light at the end of this tunnel
When I had first got COVID they hospitalized me mind u this was the first time I ever been hospitalized due to my oxygen levels going down They treated me so horribly they left me covered in my own blood and also left me when I spilled coke all over on myself they threw a wash cloth and left. I am now positive again for COVID 19 and they won't even bother to check my oxygen rate now even put the blood pressure cuff on properly not to mention they know I am positive but left me around alot of people!!!
It was quick. I appreciate all the stuff members who were taking their job seriously. Thank you so much. I noticed that there is only a few positives review and this need to be changed. P.S. I came here after St Joseph emergency room where I was writing 3 hours. I will keep sharing this unpleasant experiences, to trigger some changes in that amature organisation.
Im a trucker who have to shut down, call an uber n get my tooth infection taken care of. Staff was more than helpful and sought to my every need. They took care of me and id highly recommend this place to anyone going through an illness
My dad tested positive for Covid at 8pm here we are and it’s 11:30pm and we still have not seen the doctor. I have noticed young white patients being taken to the back to see a doctor when the emergency room is filled with 95% non white patients having to wait for over 3 hours. People will say it’s not true but tonight it’s my 85 year old dad back to reality moment to experience how far we have not come.
This was the absolute worst ER experience I have ever had. Nothing was seen as an emergency and multiple people with serious problems left after 5+ hours of waiting. I left after 6 hours of waiting, still never seen by an actual doctor.
Sat nite after the ND game there was no less than 20 people in the ER. An infection was making it painful to breathe. After an EKG i was sent back to the waiting room,i asked the nurse,is it going to be hours? He shook his head yes. There was a man who stitches had ripped open from prior back surgery..3 1/2 hours and still was waiting to be seen. I was there almost 3 hrs and saw 3,maybe 4 people taken back to see a doctor. The guy left and went to Elk general.I left not being seen,no better, and went home. I hope the staff,if u wanna call them that, are proud of their incompetence. Today there was 6 people waitng. After 3 hrs i asked the nurse behind the counter if i was going to be seen soon,to which she sarcastically replied"we're doing the best we can,but thank u for your concern"and shut her little sliding glass window in my face. Again,i left, untreated, and went home and took some advil. That ER is a joke. Never again.
Was going through a miscarriage waited 6 hours in waiting room and being told I'm crazy in medical terms I'm never going back and probably going to sue
If I could give this place a 0 I would. I understand staff is overworked, burnt out, way busier than normal but Memorial is supposed to be the top of the line in Michiana. I arrived to the ER with 4 people ahead of me. It was 2 hours before the 1st was called back and around 3.5 before I was called back. I'm not bothered by these wait times as I know it could be much longer. I'm bothered that when I was called back, I was placed in a room...and no one returned. An hour and a half went by and still not a soul to check my vitals, assess me, get me comfortable. My husband who was in the parking lot said 3 south bend and 2 mishawaka ambulances were pulling in and lots of police. Hospital went on lock down. I knew these patients would take precedence over me since they don't even know why I'm really here.... so I left. The front desk staff was less than sympathetic. My husband drove me over to Franciscan in Michigan City and WOW...what a great experience and beautiful hospital and what do you know....emergency gallbladder removal. Have had a great experience at Beacon Granger so if you can make it there to be treated...or get treated and need higher level of care...let them transport you to Memorial so you can skip Memorials ER...I'd do it.
