Empowering Deaf Children to Listen, Learn, and Talk
We teach deaf and hard of hearing children to TALK--
NO sign language is used.
What began as the dream and commitment of one mother has become a place of hope for families of thousands of children with hearing loss. Memphis Oral School for the Deaf provides deaf and hearing-impaired children the instruction needed to become independent in a world of sound. Our goal is to enable a deaf child to become a part of, rather than apart from, a world of sound. In this vein, we emphasize the ORAL part of our name - NO SIGN LANGUAGE IS USED. It is the hope at MOSD that through early intervention, specialized therapies, and classroom teaching, these children will gain confidence and control of language through the develop of speech skills so they can successfully mainstream into classrooms with their hearing peers by the time they reach school age.
