Nice parking lot but a little hard to get in or out of depending on traffic. They have several security people on site all the time unfortunately so I feel reasonably safe. They are usually good on stock so I don't have to go to another store to get what I need. Friendly staff. Clean store. One detraction is in the bathroom - they pipe in the music from the piano and it is way too loud, if I need to go in I bring my hearing protection with me.
Security followed me around too, he looks like a gremlin. I should've asked for an autograph !!! I returned some speed squares I bought so I don't condone financially Menards behavior. A few other reviews about security are on here
Inconsistent. I called and spoke directly to a store employee to ask if the store was dog-friendly. She said yes. I walked in 20 minutes later and was stopped by the security at the front door saying dogs were not allowed. I explained that I called 20 minutes beforehand and was told yes by an employee. The inconsistency and refusal to honor what was told to me is frustrating. It’s too hot to leave my dog in the car and we drove here specifically because they said yes and we had him in the car already. We’ll shop at Home Depot near Johnson St instead which is dog-friendly and honors that at all points of communication.
Efficient & friendly, quick to help find or offer solution. Never a long line to wait in for check out or returns. I enjoy the piano music but speakers on 1st level are very distorting and full of static.
I echo the sentiments of others that this store is like a militarized bunker. Not Menards' fault; a sign of the times and failed control of the nefarious elements of society. Otherwise, a typical, if not older, Menards two-level store. Also typical in that the employees run and hide when they see you looking for something. Maybe they could get their piano player to double as a store guide.
Everything was great until security accused me of stealing the half empty soda I walk in with. They didn’t come up to us right away either. Followed us around the entire time we were looking for the stuff to fix our plumbing and to price new door locks. Then they took it a step further and harassed my boyfriend at the register. And that wasn’t even just security, the staff at the registers joined in and continued to belittle me to the point I just walked out. 100% do NOT recommend this location. I’ll continue my shopping at the west side Menards!
I tried to bring my service dog into the store and they harassed me about it. I told them he was my service dog for diabetes and they tried to ask for paperwork. And 1 guy said he never heard of a dog for diabetes. This store has turned into a security bunker. It makes me not want to shop at this location any more
If the refrigerated and frozen food section were a little bigger, I'd never have to go anywhere else.
Wow, this hurts to write this review as I have been a long-time fan of Menards and am a very non-confrontational person especially when it comes to retail and front-line workers. I came into the St. Paul Midway Menards store this past Saturday to exchange a dehumidifier that was purchased in September 2021 and was still under a 3 year manufacturer warranty. I had already spoken to the manufacturer, and they said I just needed to bring it back to Menards with a proof of purchase and it will be swapped out for a new unit, easy enough. The problems started when I went to use the receipt lookup kiosk that Menards has near the returns desk. When I swiped my credit card which I have had since 2020 and is the only card I use for home purchases, the machine only seemed to bring up about 30% of my historical transactions with Menards. Most frustratingly, there were 0 receipts showing for the entire year of 2021, whereas my bank statements show over 10 unique purchases at the exact same Menards just in the last half of 2021. Additionally, my bank verified that it has been the exact same card and card number since 2020, so it's not due to a card being swapped out or anything like that. While the gals at the returns desk were very kind and trying to help find a solution, the front desk manager Karma and general store manager Justin were very much the opposite. Karma quickly made it clear that he did not care to resolve my situation. He stated that it is "much more likely that I am making a mistake than their machine, which is highly accurate". After clearly explaining to him that I have bank statements showing purchases on the very same card at his store in 2021, whereas their "highly accurate machine" shows nothing for the entire year, he lectured me that I should have kept my receipt after "making such a big purchase". Normally I do save receipts for larger purchases, but elected not to with Menards as they have this kiosk that should in theory save all receipts for you. Karma seemed to think I was "bragging" about how much money I spend at his store, while I was simply trying to highlight how their kiosk showed no transactions for a year where thousands were spent. After it was clear that Karma did not care to find any other way to resolve the situations like possibly reaching out to an IT or accounting support team to see how all of my 2021 receipts seemed to not populate, I asked to speak to the store manager, Justin. Justin handled the situation not like a manager at a retail chain, but more like a bouncer at a bar. He was rude and demeaning in his responses, and only seemed to want to let me know that it is my problem that their computers can't produce a proof of purchase. After realizing that neither of these managers had any interest to try and find an adequate solution, and after several stern looks from the nearby security guard, I left the store after over an hour of wasted time and feeling as if my dignity was taken away by the judgmental pair. I plan to explore a resolution via a complaint to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau CFPB and will update this review based on any further contact with Menards. In the meantime, I want to make anyone that chooses to do business at Menards aware of the fact that their receipt lookup kiosks are faulty to the consumer's detriment, and realize that the management at least at this Menards location have zero desire to actively listen to customer complaints and apply critical thinking to resolve issues on their own behalf.
I had just received a bike from Mr Micheals Recycled Bicycle Shop a few blocks away from Menards...I asked about getting a lock and he said they sold them for $30...he suggested Menards...so I rode my bicycle there and wanted to get a bike lock...I started going in the entrance..while walking my bike. . and the Menards security guy said I couldn't come in with my bicycle...even though I was walking it beside me slowly...I explained that I just got my bicycle and wanted to just come in and get a bike lock...he insisted that I leave it outside...like I wanna leave my new bike with no lock and go in to shop....are you kidding me??? That's ridiculous. I was disappointed and left angry...not cool
