Meta's Restaurant is amazing! The ribs were fall off the bone delicious, collards and the yams are out of this world. The cornbread muffins, sweet and lemonade... simply amazing. Ms. Meta is so sweet, which is why her food has lots of TLC... tender, love and care.
Honestly the food a couple years back was way more flavorful than it is now. The prices have gone up from 7 to 10 at the least for a meat with 2 sides. The business is slower, so it appears that leftover food is being sold the next day. Dry chicken and porkchops, undercooked rice and cabbage...and the meatloaf was still red in the middle, the Mac n cheese was greasy with barely any cheese in the middle. To add insult to injury Meta persona is not welcoming at all and today she was on the phone almost the entire time while fixing our plates. Whomever she was speaking to offered to call back once she was available and Meta insisted on continuing the conversation. Unprofessional. The renovations are nice, but her sanitation score has gone down to a 90. I will not eat here again.
This business use to be a place to come and enjoy soul food. With the Wednesdays $5.00 specials. Now they gone up in prices which can be understood. However with the price increase u would at least expect better service. Now they have all kind of inaccurate signs of business hours listed and none seem to be right. On says they're open for breakfast from 7 to 10. Which they're never open. Another says 9 to 8 and on her actual door it says 11 to 3. It is now 11: 35 and no one has opened the doors or answered the phone. This is very bad business. For customers to have to wait or expect service and there is none. As a private owner u have the right to open when ever u please but if u have a time to open u should do just that.
You have to wait forever and the big girl that works there is extremely rude. The side portions are extremely small not worth the price at all. The prices change all the time. The mac & cheese is watery and it's terrible. Taste like all ingredients were cooked separately. If you want real soul food go to Prime Tyme.
I hate to give this place a 3/5 review because the people were polite, but when comparing to other places I have been, it is average. I walked in at noon and there was no one in the restaurant except one person talking at the register with an employee and a second employee mopping. There were three TVs on the wall on mute showing various sports. There are two entrances into the establishment. I had never been there before so I didnt know what to expect. There was a buffet lined up on one wall, but clear direction of where to go or how to order. There were no labels of what each item was, nor were there prices listed anywhere. I stood and waited several minutes while the employees continued talking and mopping. I considered leaving because they didn't seem to be in a hurry to assist and I was on my lunch break, pressed for time. The employee that was mopping finished and then came over to assist. I didnt think about it at the time, but I believe she was wearing gloves. I was greeted, I ordered turkey, corn, and green beans southern soul food style. The portion of turkey was huge! It took up the entire plate. The meat was well cooked, fell right off the bone, and tasted great. I just wish it had been hotter in temperature. I was actually disappointed that all of the food was lukewarm temperature, even though the trays were under heat lamps and over a water bath. The green beans were cooked southern style with ham hocks, but had a smoky taste that for me was a little off I've had this style many times before so I'm familiar with the ways it can taste The corn was fine but had no flavor. There were no napkins, salt, pepper, or anything on the tables and I felt uncomfortable asking the person who made the food for seasoning. It seemed impolite so I didn't ask. Drinks were bottled water and bottled soda in a large standing ice cooler like at a gas station, as well as tea, lemonade, and koolaid I'm not sure how they are served. I saw several really pretty looking cakes of different types, but did not try them. When I was ready to leave, I asked what to do with my tray and was told to leave it at the table. I did get a box and bag for to-go items, but it was only to be polite. I do not think I will be back, and I hate that because I'm always pro local businesses in favor of chains, but there are several competitors I would rather visit.
Such a wonderful lady and fabulous food! Portions are generous and the quality is unmatched. I would highly recommend eating here and getting your fill of southern hospitality. The ribs are AMAZING!
Attempted to go this establishment while in town for NBTF. Arrived at 4pm and sign on door said she would reopen at 5pm. Went back at 6pm and sign was gone, doors locked Owner was inside talking to someone. She turned around and looked and my friend and I and put up her finger as to say: One moment. Well 10 minutes later, she Never came to the door. How rude!!! Not a good way to represent Winston Salem
The food is truly amazing, but professionalism in conjunction with great taste keeps the customers coming. Please update your website and phone number as it is an inconvenience for customers to drive to your establishment only for the doors to be closed & locked during “open hours”. Thank you
When I say never again I mean never ever again. This place was so unprofessional, I found a FLY in my mac and cheese. My husband ordered 2 lemonades but they only had enough for 1 smh. I could go on and on. And the food was disgusting.
For anybody that have tried Meta and you love soul food oh my God this is the place to be the food is so good you eat a plate there and buy another to take home... It is worth the drive I promise you love love love Meta's
