Metropolitan Artists Commonwealth is a student art entrepreneurship project associated with Metropolitan Community College.
The Commonwealth Gallery was initially funded with an MCC Inspiring Innovation Mini Grant with the aim of promoting entrepreneurship in the arts here at Metropolitan Community College. Founded in 2013, the space provides students with hands-on experience exhibiting and marketing their creative work
The goal of the Commonwealth Gallery is to provide MCC students and alumni with professional experience presenting and selling their art. Participants jury, curate, hang and promote each exhibition. The gallery is located in the Elkhorn Valley Commons and currently consists of a picture rail and large lighted display case.
To date the gallery has featured eight exhibitions and three art sales. MCC students and alumni have earned more than $1300 in art sales in the past two years. A percentage of proceeds from gallery sales goes back to support the gallery.
The Metropolitan Artists Commonwealth is a club formed to organize and support the Commonwealth Gallery. The goals of the MAC are:
To provide a positive environment where members can share their knowledge and experiences in a focused community of artists.
To provide students with opportunities designed to enrich creative skill and knowledge in preparation for both the local and national art arena.
To increase awareness of contemporary art and creative career opportunities.
To provide access to resources and promote the development of creditable arts-related experience.
To provide a community in which members can network and receive feedback on their creative work.
Membership is open to any currently enrolled MCC student or alumni.
