Miami Central High School

Description

Miami Central Senior High School, commonly referred to as Central Rockets, is a secondary school located at 1781 NW 95th Street in West Little River, Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. Its current principal is Gregory Bethune.Miami Central opened its doors in 1959. Its school mascot and colors were chosen in honor of NASA and the inception of its space program, which was an event at the time of the school's opening. In the early 1990s, the school acquired a computer science magnet program, placed as part of the district's initiative to devote school space to certain magnet programs so as to attract minority students to less diverse schools. The school serves most of the northern fringes of the city of Miami, as well as parts of North Miami, Opa-locka, the village of Miami Shores, and the village of El Portal.HistoryKathleen McGrory wrote in 2009 that Miami Central was "historically beset by chronic truancy, declining enrollment, dispirited staff and general disrepair". That year the school was under threat of being closed and/or having special programs taken away under federal mandates that would penalize the school for a sixth failure on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT); for the five previous consecutive years it had received "F" grades. In 2009 Doug Rodriguez, who previously served as the principal at Ronald W. Reagan/Doral High School, volunteered to become the principal of Miami Central.

Central isn’t the best choice AT ALL! students get kicked of very often. I always begged to come here in middle school years but now i can’t believe my eyes on what the staff does. Security level is POOR! Bathrooms Rarely have toilet paper or tissue.. Some teachers care some don’t! The staff are disrespectful as heck! They treat some people i know so unfairly the football players get the most support out of the whole school. CENTRAL JUST NEEDS A WHOLE NEW STUDENT BROAD! cause this school isn’t getting ran properly I’m leaving idc
Imma see yall next year
OMG where do I began. This school isn't the best option and should not be your first choice. Not all but, most teachers here dont teach and they are very rude, a lot of teachers here show up for a paycheck and dont get me started with lunch. The lunch ladies and the guy who directs the lunch line take their job way too serious like pipe down, and fights break loose like crazy here over foolishness and im sick and tired of the foolery, and for the finish the secerity gaurds do nothing but talk and spread gossip and the restrooms never have toilet paper or soap or tissue to dry your hands. Its ashame that I have to bring my own toilet paper , soap and napkins. The only restrooms that have those supplies are the staff restrooms, and it really blows me that the restrooms for students dont have it becasue i see janitors all the time and i ask myself what do they get paid for. Smh
My child attends Miami Central, the teachers are caring and the magnet program is great. The educators go an extra mile for the students. The band program is epic! Parents need to be involved in their children educational needs. I really appreciate Mr. Attis, Mrs. Bramer, Mr. Bannerman, Mrs. Simpson and many more educators who truly love and care about their students education.
Why wouldn't I Love this place ? I went there in the early 60's & worked at the " Sandwich shop " across the street after school. Those were the years when Miami Dade Jr.College was using a part the area till they got their own building constructed. I could Go on and On , but , I will say , " THOSE WERE THE DAYS MY FRIEND , I WISH I WHERE STILL BACK THEN ", I must say , I had a Great Great Time. Have a Great Time While you are Their and Treat Your Teachers with respect, cause One Day You Will Be their age , and Wonder Where the Time Went. GOD Bless All of You , from an old student , Carol Zahs Wilson - originally From N. W. 93 rd.& 18th.ave. .
