Micah Legal is Kentucky's first sliding-scale legal services nonprofit. This model civically engages diverse constituencies, opens economic opportunities for those with low or no income, and sustainably increases the availability of free or low-cost legal services.
Micah Legal is bridging the gap between Legal Aid and regular attorneys, making sure that people with low and middle incomes are able to get help from an attorney that they can afford. Fees are based on client's family size and income, as well as the legal matter, and range from $25/hr. to $150/hr.
Clients referred by a local nonprofit receive free or low-cost legal services, such as expungement, child support, or disability assistance, to increase their economic opportunity, employability, and self-sufficiency.
Our mission is to increase the supply of affordable, high-quality legal services in Lexington by offering sliding scale and limited representation, to increase access to justice for people with limited income, and to bring community members into the struggle for equality for all before the law.
