Michael R. Hoffman is a trial lawyer with his office in the old Hall’s Drug Store location in downtown Bismarck, North Dakota. Mr. Hoffman is a criminal defense lawyer and a plaintiff personal injury lawyer.
Mr. Hoffman grew up on a farm and ranch in rural, south central North Dakota, and is a 1977 graduate of North Dakota State University. Mr. Hoffman tried his first jury trial in 1979 in Dallas County Criminal Court No. 1, Dallas, Texas, as a senior law student and a member of the Criminal Law Clinic of Southern Methodist University School of Law. Mr. Hoffman graduated from SMU Law School in 1980 and has been representing and helping people ever since. In 1997, Mr. Hoffman had the honor of being accepted to and graduating from Gerry Spence’s Trial Lawyers College in Dubois, Wyoming.
Mr. Hoffman has tried numerous jury trials, criminal and civil, in state and federal court. Mr. Hoffman is licensed to try cases in North Dakota, and to do appeals in the North Dakota Supreme Court, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis, Missouri, and the United States Supreme Court.
Cases, most times, are a process. A case may require a jury trial. A case may require an appeal.
Mr. Hoffman is the inaugural President of the North Dakota Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (2010-2011), and continues to be a member of that association. Mr. Hoffman has been a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since he first became a lawyer in 1980, and is also a member by invitation-only of The National Trial Lawyers.
