Dr. Michael T. Koch, DDS
Dr. Michael T. Koch has lived in the Carmichael area since 1955. He attended Carmichael School, Our Lady of Assumption, St. John Evangelist, La Sierra High School, American River College, California State University, and Creighton Dental School in Omaha, Nebraska. Other than dental school in Omaha, Dr. Koch has not strayed too far from home and currently lives with his wife, Carol, in the home that they raised their two children, Daniel and Patrick, only three miles from his current office, which was built by his father in 1964. Dr. Koch remembers that after his school days of his 8th grade year, his father gave him the job of washing the windows at the complex- where he found out the numerous amount of windows dental offices have. Before moving his practice to the current Stanley Avenue location, he practiced at a complex next to American River Hospital in October 1976.
As far as his journey through the education and college world, the choice to attend Creighton University was that of complete confidence for Dr. Michael T. Koch. Creighton University specializes in teaching their dental students every aspect of dentistry. They assume that their graduates will be practicing in small towns in the Midwest and will not have dental specialists close by to refer to in a timely manner- especially for those who are in pain. As a result, he performs prosthodontic, root canal, and extraction needs himself- unless otherwise necessary.
In addition to, Dr. Koch has been placing Bicon implants, which are a unique type of implant, and restoring Bicon implants since 2006. Bicon is an implant company based out of Boston that was established in 1985. The Bicon implant is the only implant on the market that does require a screw to attach the crown to the implant. It is also the shortest implant, which allows it to be used in areas where there is not enough bone for alternative implants. This eliminates the need for synthetic bone build up, and of course an additional cost.

Another special feature at Dr. Koch's office is the Cerec machine, which he has used since 2006. This machine allows him to make all porcelain crowns in the office in a window of only two and a half hours (only one hour of actual working time on the patient). Porcelain crowns are the most natural looking of all crowns because the dark line at the gum line is not visible. With Cerec crowns, there are also no impressions. This high-tech machine takes a 3D image of the prepared tooth instead, saving the patient from unnecessary discomfort. Also, the cost of Cerec crowns is offset by the lab cost savings on every crownmade, and therefore does not require an increased fee.
Outside of practing dentistry, Dr. Koch loves bicycling and golf. He has been a Rotarian in the North Sacramento Rotary Club since 1977 (president 1984-1985) and also a member of the Sacramento Wheelman Bicycle Club since 1976 (president 1988-1989). Since 1990, he has and continues to organize week long club tours to destinations like Oregan, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, and the New England coast.
