Tower Guard is an organization at MSU that assists the RCPD (Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities) with reader services and E-text.
Tower Guard is an organization dedicated to assisting individuals with disabilities by providing for reader services (for the blind), and by also providing Electronically formatted textbooks (E-Text), which is used as a quick an alternative method to the textbook. Digital formatting programs can then take the E-Text files and convert them into audio files so that the blind can have a reader for their textbook at their own convenience. We assist in this production, and it ends up benefiting not only those with disabilities, but it helps everyone. Tower Guard doesn't only assist the blind, but also assists those with disabilities such as ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, and other learning disabilities. Our main goal is to help everyone achieve success here at MSU.
As members of Tower Guard, our main commitment of service is to persons with disabilities at Michigan State University. In the course of the school year, each member of Tower Guard will spend four hours per week translating textbooks into an electronic format, reading exams and schoolwork to visually impaired students and other students with impaired reading ability. Over 85 percent of the reading for the blind is done by Tower Guard, thus maintaining MSU's outstanding service to students with disabilities.
