Mid-Coast Electric Supply, Inc. (MCESI) was incorporated in the State of Texas in 1968 by Louis Barker and William McKinney. In 1980, Louis Barker became the sole owner of MCESI. The corporate headquarters was built in Victoria, Texas in the same year.
At that time, total company revenue was less than $3 million. The company continued to grow and expand through the 1980s by growing its market share in Victoria and establishing a satellite location in Bay City, Texas. By the end of 1989, MCESI had grown to $5.8 million in total revenue.
In the 1990s, the company continued to expand by launching its Rio Grande Valley location in Harlingen, Texas. Steve and Tom Barker both joined MCESI as full-time employees and part owners. In 1999, MCESI opened its Corpus Christi location. By the end of 2000, total company revenue had grown to over $18 million.
The company's steady growth has continued from 2000-present. The San Antonio location was acquired in 2003. In 2003, MCESI's Distribution Center was established in San Antonio, Texas. Louis Barker retired from MCESI in 2004. Steve and Tom Barker became sole owners of the company. Total revenue for the company exceeded $35 million in 2007.
After nearly quadrupling the size of the company in the last 10 years, MCESI has established new revenue and growth goals. By the close of 2009, the company will hit a total revenue level of $50 million. A new organizational structure has been established capable of supporting our current size and growth goals. Strong new talent has been infused at the Executive and Director levels to guide MCESI through the next phase of growth. A new ERP system was launched in 2004 to serve as the backbone of company sales and provide a competitive advantage over all of our South Texas competitors.
