If I could give 0 stars I would and as a former employee, it's sad. I've been a patient here for 5 years and the past 3 out of 5 years mine and my husbands annual physical gets canceled the morning of30mins prior ..I haven't gotten a physical in 2 years because of this and last year I was pregnant. Staff blames it on the doctor being unavailable but they have said that each year when they were scheduled with different providers.. And of course they never have another appointment available in ANY Hudson Valley offices same day.. Very frustrating. Doctor won't give script for labs or medications until seen?? INSANE when I had it booked.. These appointments were scheduled months in advanced, we took the day off, & got a baby sitter, just for it to get canceled. I understand things come up, but within reason.. 3 years in a row is just unreasonable for me. At this point I feel like they're just playing games.. especially from seeing previous reviews from those having similar issues. Switching pcp's at this point.. Why stay a patient here if I'm never seen?? So I took it upon myself, paid out of pocket and ordered my own labs.. Thanks Institute.
After five years of going here and at least ten visits I cannot deal with the incompetence here anymore. Not once has the appointment time been accurate- 3:30 becomes 4:15, 10am becomes 11am. Nobody seems to know how ANYTHING works between the office, MYCHART, and telehealth. The doctors are good Lisa is great but it's rendered irrelevant because of the inept bureaucracy running the place. Regardless of there being three or even 100 people in front of you in the call queue it takes 45 minutes + to get in touch with someone, and then generally the earliest in office appointment is a week+ out. You're better off just googling a telehealth place and going with them if you don't need to be seen in office as the telehealth visits offered by the Institute start 35+ minutes after scheduled time like I'm currently waiting if at all. If there were ANY other doctor practices in New Paltz I have no doubt the institute would have ceased to exist years ago. Its terrible reputation is the worst kept secret in New Paltz.
The closest thing I have found to the NHS in the US. They are always Caring and Compassionate. They put patients’ needs above financial gain. I cannot recommend the Institute for Family Health highly enough. The medical staff are excellent I trust them with my life, literally.
5 stars. I have been going here for years and have never had better and more attentive care. My doctors and care team and I have great communication especially through Mychartthe patient portal. My therapists here have always been supportive, my medication has always been prescribed with the same level of support and concern, and my physicals and other appointments have always been great. I am able to list everything of concern and have always felt heard. My care manager is also extremely informed and tells me about so many options I have. I am can always get an appointment and soon. I always hear back from my team quickly. The Institute for Family Health in New Paltz has helped me so much. I would rate them more than 5 stars if I could.
Came in for jaw pain, waited 10 days for this appointment and they had me coming in for a sore throat, made me sit in my car on a 90 degrees day for 30 minutes just to take me in and make me wait another 30 minutes to see the doctor, nurse didn’t come in an do anything. My appointment was at 2:40 it is 3:15 and I still have t been seen. Really disappointed in service. My time was waisted completely.
I find it pathetic when you call your waiting for over 30 minutes to speak to someone you're caller #7 & even then you get no one. What's even more frustrating is when you press the prompt to have a call back & get none. I shouldn't have to drive to the doctors office just to speak to someone. My mother has been going there since 2016 when I brought her to live with me. She's 93, has dementia & she shouldn't have had to wait almost 3 weeks to see if she had a UTI. After 3 phone appointments & not getting a call, after trying numerous times to get them on the phone, I went there and was not the nicest person. I explained to the manager my anger is not for the staff but for the company & told her what's been going on. Dr. Pinnamaneni was nice enough to come out, check my mother & put her on antibiotics for a UTI. Now I can't even find out if they're out of her system so I can have the culture done, instead of the stick. The state has to make changes of how these corporate offices are run. You never have this problem at private practice. I guess it's lack of concern for the patient, lack of customer satisfaction & all about the $$$$.
I have used the Institute for Family Health IFH on two occasions in 2021. I want to avoid whenever possible using it again. The first time was to use a PCP to obtain authorization to have surgery elsewhere. Despite stating that I received the authorization, according to the surgeon's office, IFH never submitted the paperwork. After the surgeon's admin attempted to talk admin at IFH through the process to no avail, I also called them. Every phone call takes about 35 minutes, regardless which department. After being told by admin that they already had provided the authorization, I called my insurance company and found that it had not. Luckily my insurance company then handled the authorization transaction. The second time was to get a lyme disease test after receiving multiple tick bites weeks earlier and having muscle aches. After the usual phone wait of 35 minutes, I was told that I could get an appointment three days later -- which is a lot to wait for a blood test. After 5pm that day, an articulate and caring doctor from IFH called me and told me that I need not wait for my appointment, he put the prescription in and a nurse would call me the following day and I could get tested. Unfortunately, the nurse called that afternoon -- too late in the day for me to get there. I called the nurse's line a 35 minute wait and was told to do a "walk-in" the following day. When I arrived the following day, I was told that I could not get a blood test until my 4:15 appointment. Why? Because muscle aches are a symptom of Covid! The 4:15 appointment was scheduled for the section of the facility for Covid patients. The staff did not care that its own doctor and nurse had already approved a walk-in blood test. They did not care that I was vaccinated for Covid and had multiple tick bites. Just about everyone in the Hudson Valley understands the gravity of contracting lyme and the symptoms it causes, but apparently not at IFH. And they demanded that a non-Covid infected person use the Covid area of the facility! I spoke to a manager and told her that I was worried that if I waited until 4:15 for my appointment, all the the blood samples would be gone for the day. I was told "no," there was one 6pm pickup for the whole day. After wasting an hour, there was nothing I could do but come back at 4:15. At my 4:15 appointment, the doctor was quick to tell me that all blood had gone out by 3pm, as they usually do. He asked me if I would be willing to return the following day for the test. I told him I wanted the test right away. Then a medical assistant came to take my blood stating and I am paraphrasing "thanks to you we have to stay a half hour late to spin the blood before it goes to the lab tomorrow." I am stunned by the lack of competency and caring at this facility with the exception of the kind doctor who had originally called me.
Two stars because their okay-ish medical staff outshines the useless mental health department. I had one 1 good therapist but she left the institute after five sessions with me, and she did more for me then the other staff has done over the past few years combined. They are way too passive in their methods, even after I explicitly expressed what I needed. I was told I couldn't switch to a new therapist without talking to the administration first and they have failed to reach out to me after two weeks, even after I have left several messages and pointed out that my records show my mental health has been declining. My new psychiatrist my old one was actually quite nice but left for maternity leave failed to officially schedule an appointment with me which makes me have to wait over a month for another appointment. Guess he wasn't so concerned about me like he said he was. No one else I know has had a good experience at IFH receiving mental health assistance. AVOID this place.
Ppl can say what they want about this place but I will say that you wont find a more rounded Dr them Dr Curtis Sprague ! The guy has great insight and knows his stuff ! Also want to commend Shannon Treasure the Assistant Associate Manager for her work ethic. I'm not an easy person to deal with at times and these two always work hard to get things done for me. They both always fill my high expectations ! I'm trying to let ppl know that this is a good local doctors office that never turns away ppl in need over financial limitations. Give them a chance. You wont regret it.
If I could leave a negative number, I would. The level of incompetence throughout this practice, including licensed medical staff, is astounding. Calls not returned. Patient without medication because doctors do not respond to pharmacy requests. Medications are not properly monitored. Elderly patient has been waiting since September for office to properly complete and submit paperwork for necessary medical supplies; one issue was that script for supplies was reported by supplier to have been altered with white-out. Incomplete and incorrect information on patient chart. Test results not accurately recorded... so much more, including accessibility problems for wheelchair bound that will be reported to ADA. Non-stop and ongoing issues... Our community and our loved ones deserve better.
