The Middletown Police K-9 Unit

Officer D’Aresta and K-9 Hunter: K-9 Hunter is an amber colored Sable type German Shepherd who originally came from Slovakia. Officer D’Aresta and Hunter have been a team since 2008 when they graduated the 133rd CSP Patrol K-9 Class. Together, they are assigned to the Patrol Division and work the midnight shift. Throughout their time together they have assisted Police with numerous K-9 related calls such as building searches, tracking, evidence recovery and crowd control. K-9 Hunter has also come to the aid of his Handler and other Officers with apprehending criminals thus help keeping Officers and the citizens of Middletown safe.
K-9 Hunter has competed in six K-9 Olympics that take place yearly around July in Mansfield Ct; the proceeds of which support many good causes throughout the state. K-9 Hunter has participated in many “demos” and other related community functions such as the Middletown Kid’s Fair.
On his time off, K-9 Hunter enjoys resting and relaxing along with spending time with his family where he can just be himself; a fun loving, happy dog.

Officer Maio and K-9 Judge: Judge is a solid black colored German Shepherd and was born in Slovakia on 06/13/2011. Judge along with his handler, Ofc. Will Maio, attended the CSP K-9 academy from October 2012 - January 2013 (Graduation Class 156). Judge has had over 300 uses since January 2013. Some of Judge's successful uses include evidence recovery, tracking violent felons, locating felons hiding from police in buildings and multiple felony apprehensions. Judge is currently assigned to the Patrol Division where he works day shift.
Judge also serves on the Middletown SWAT team along K-9 Killian.
Judge competed for the first time in the 2013 K-9 Olympics, where he tied for 3rd place in the apprehension challenge.
When Judge is off-duty, he spends his time entertained at home by another family pet, Roma, a female bull terrier. K-9 Judge is also loved by Ofc. Maio’s wife and four year old daughter.

Mission

To make the community a safer place to live and do business by assisting Police with the following: building searches, apprehending fleeing criminals, locating missing persons, evidence recovery, narcotics detection, crowd control and also public relations/education by conducting demonstrations throughout the community.
