My 9 year old son wanted to play drums for a long long time. It wasn't easy to find a drum teacher in the Salt Lake area, near our home. I looked around and asked many people before finding Mike. The people who recommended him described him as the best drum teacher in Utah. So we decided to give it a try even though his studio is not as close to where we live as we would have liked. We feel very lucky to have found Mike. My son has been studying drums with him for about 8 months now, and totally loves it! Mike is an incredible teacher, the kind your kid will remember for a lifetime. He has a thorough knowledge of music and drums, he teaches with passion and rigor, is an inspiring teacher and has a charming personality. The students love him and respect him. My son loves going to drum lesson and thinks Mike is the coolest guy on earth. He expects much from his students, but is also very encouraging and understanding. My kid would hate to disappoint him. Mike is a great role model for any kid, beyond learning how to play drums. We highly recommend him.
My 13 year-old son has been taking lessons from Mike and is absolutely loving it!! As I read through some of the other reviews, I found myself wanting to copy and paste many of the comments that others have made into my own review. Why? Because what they have said so beautifully, is true. He is a fantastic teacher and a great role model. In short, look no further... you've found the very best! Aside from being an extraordinarily talented drummer himself, Mike really is a fantastic teacher. He has the perfect personality for teaching and continually makes the lessons fun and interesting for his students. While he expects his students to perform and achieve their personal best, he is patient, kind and has a great sense of humor. He inspires his students and they do not want to disappoint him in return. My son will readily go and practice without needing any “encouragement” from me to do so- that in itself is amazing. I’ve always had to pester my kids about practicing anything and everything ; Mike has a great system in place to motivate his students in earning their next “level” of drumming experience. He is highly organized and efficient. As others have noted, he is also very good about working with us on any scheduling conflicts that arise, whether we’re out of town, or my son's lesson falls on a holiday, etc. He is always accommodating and willing to work with us in finding another time. We couldn't be happier. Again, no need to look any further... you've just found the very best!
My son has been taking drum lessons from Mike Dale for over 2 years, and he absolutely loves it! As parents, Mike is very accommodating of our schedule, and he is very quick to schedule make-up lessons, etc. My son has many passing interests, which come and go. But he has stuck with drum lessons, mostly due to Mike's teaching style and passion. Mike is good. He is really good, and is easily worth every penny we pay him!
Mike Dale is an excellent musician and teacher who really engages his students. My son learned so much from him and really felt like Mike was interested not only in his progress with his drumming but also in him as a person. He is a teacher that uses lots of positive reinforcement and knows how to motivate his students! I highly recommend him to anyone as a teacher
My son has been taking drum lessons from Mike for five years now, and we are extremely satisfied with Mike's teaching, experience, and knowledge. Mike does not take a one-size-fits-all approach to teaching, but instead tailors his teaching materials to each of his students. He is not only a mentor and someone my son looks up to, but also a friend. Without Mike's efforts throughout these years, my son would not be chosen for his school's jazz band and enjoy playing the drums so much. I highly recommend Mike!
My son Spencer has been Mike's student for many years. Not only is Mike excellent at teaching drums, but his personality is perfect for his students. He relates so well to each individual and therefore they love and respect him. He is patient but he expects them to perform at a certain level. He is very organized with his scheduling but understanding when problems occur. Anyone would be lucky to have Mike as a teacher. His location at Cottonwood was perfect for us, easy to get to and very little traffic.
My son has been taking drums from Mike for almost two years. Mike is always very encouraging and engaging and is always so patient. He has been so good to listen to my son and base what he is learning around what interests him. Never has there been a complaint to go to drum lesson. So happy we found an awesome teacher so close to home. Would highly recommend Mike to anyone.
My son has been taking drum lessons from Mike Dale for approximately 2 years. From day one my son started bonding with Mike and he is now considered family. My son has grown from just learning how to hold the drum sticks correctly to just now tackling a complex song form Rush. Mike's teaching style almost seems to be custom fit to my child and it has been a great pleasure sitting in on each drum lesson and seeing the amazing progression first hand. I would recommend Mike and do to anyone with an ear for music and a passion for the drums!!
Mike Dale is a fantastic drum teacher. I had been playing for several years as a self-taught drummer and had hit a wall in my ability. I sought out a drum teacher to take me to the next level, and I was fortunate to have found Mike! Mike is an extremely talented drummer with the teaching skills necessary to promote growth in students of all ages and abilities. Mike's Cottonwood Heights studio is easily accessible and the equipment is well maintained. If you or your child is interested in learning to play the drums, I would highly recommend Mike Dale Studios.
