MISSION STATEMENT

Millburn PBA Local 34

Est. 1915

The New Jersey Policeman's Benevolent Association was formed on September 29, 1896 when law enforcement officers from Elizabeth, Hoboken, Jersey City, Newark, and Paterson met for the first time in Feist's Hall in Paterson, NJ. The first president was William F. Keefe of Paterson, who was instrumental in organizing officers in police departments around the state to improve salaries, working conditions, job security, and pensions.

The New Jersey State Police Officers Benevolent Association has grown from a social organization into a union of more than 33,000 municipal, county, state, and federal law enforcement officers. The NJ State PBA has over 350 locals across the state, and has succeeded in acquiring improved benefits, legislation, and other realizations to make the job of law enforcement officers safer and more rewarding.

The PBA membership is comprised of 54 police officers within the Township of Millburn and Short Hills. The PBA membership is committed to the prevention of crime, protection of life and property, enforcement of laws and ordinances and the safeguarding of constitutional rights and guarantees. Since our officers joined the Police Officers Benevolent Association in 1915 we have upheld the highest standards of performance, professional conduct and ethics. We continue to develop a community partnership and public trust to fulfill our mission.

The PBA also represents the police officers in contract negotiations, grievances and matters pertaining to work conditions and officer safety. In this capacity we work diligently to ensure that our members are fairly compensated and provided the training, equipment and support needed to serve the public effectively.
