The Millington Airport Fire Department provides all emergency responses within the Millington Jetport Authority property. Under the leadership of Fire Chief Mike Gill and staffed by 10 paid professional firefighter/EMT-A and Paramedics. Located within the Memphis Aerotropolis (America’s Distribution Center) with an 8,000 ft. runway and lots of apron space along with a 1,350-acre development area.
In 1942, The U.S. Navy established a Naval Reserve Aviation Base here. It later became Naval Air Station Memphis and then the Mid-South Naval Air Station. As a result of the 1993 Base Realignment and Closure Commission report, the airport and almost 2,000 acres of adjacent land was transferred to the City of Millington. About 550 acres is used for airport purposes with the balance set aside for industrial development. The Millington Regional Jetport, formerly known as the Millington Municipal Airport, is currently operated as a public airport serving primarily private and military aircraft.
