The NLG was founded in 1937, when the ABA opposed the New Deal & excluded lawyers of color. The Guild has been a key progressive & anti-imperialist ally of movements for social & economic justice ever since.
Since 1937, when the Am. Bar Assn. opposed the New Deal & would not admit lawyers of color, NLG has served as a progressive integrated ally of movements and activists for social & economic justice, at home and as impacted by US foreign policies. Our members are lawyers, legal workers, law students, & jailhouse lawyers.
