Absolutely incredible experience. Music is such a large part of my life and this museum tapped right into my love of the arts. You will experience so many different cultures and time periods. I really loved the headphones that connected to the exhibits as you walk through!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$21–30
An absolutely incredible museum. They have the largest collection of musical instruments in the WORLD!!! The exhibits are all done beautifully and the headphones that you wear that automatically connect to each exhibit while walking around enables you to hear the most beautiful sounds. Great place to spend a few hours and get lost. I highly recommend!
We had fun with our infant. They have headphones and an exploration and play place for little ones. A great time for the whole family. Just wonderful. Worth buying the membership as you will want to come back over and over if you are a resident. And the restaurant is quite good and affordable.Visited onWeekendWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entry$31+
On a scale of 1 to 10, the MIM is an 11! With a collection of over 15,000 instruments from 200 countries, the museum is a cultural delight, holding enrichment and wonders at every turn. From the global rooms, organized by continent, to the genre sections, there are vast opportunities to explore instruments and styles of music. The engagement videos are short and sweet. I’m usually no fan of audio-guide headsets, but the MIM’s are fantastic. Each instrument display has a screen offering clips from A to D, each about 15 to 30 seconds long. The headsets work via proximity and cue at each display’s video progress automatically. It’s a great way to see a given exhibit’s instruments in action or hear more about the treasures there without committing much time to any single setting — it’s a huge museum, requiring forward progress. There’s also a café onsite, a gift shop, a theater that hosts events almost nightly, and an experience room that allows hands-on play of gongs, continuum electronics, drums, and more. Absolutely exceptional — worth a visit whether you have hours or days to wander the museum!
Very cool place to learn about music and dance culture from all over the world. And to see some iconic musical instruments and outfits worn by some of music's greats . My only drawback is some of the best items they kept in a separate room and charged an extra fee . So I didn't go in to see that .Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitPrice for adult entry$16–20
It was amazing. All 4 of my kids enjoyed it and wanted to go back. So much good information. I was most pleased that you had a sizable display for Elvis.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$16–20
What a fantastic museum!! Really loved going through each exhibit but I wished we had more time in okie schedule to see everything. There were free tours that happen every other hour, which is great, but they breeze through everything. My husband and I eventually broke away from the group so that we could take our time and look at everything. We’ll be back!!!
Incredible collection of musical instruments from around the world with detailed history. The headphones and audio box provided added immensely to the experience. As you walk through from display to display it automatically plays the sound and music from that display. We ended up spending about three hours here and didn’t fully experience everything. Huge collection of modern day instruments and artifacts like Johnny Cash’s suit and guitar and Taylor Swift clothing. Plus massive areas on the second floor from regions and countries throughout the world with traditional music. Amazing place that we’re already planning our next visit to see more of.
Really can’t say enough about this place. I’m not even a Musical person, but I was just blown away by this museum. Way larger than I expected, with absolutely beautiful grounds that can be enjoyed when the weather finally breaks! Not only will you see a vast variety of instruments, But also outfits and costumes worn by stars. So many historical instruments, beautifully arranged by region, as well as by instrument type. If I, as a non-musical person loved it, I cannot imagine how much a musical person will enjoy this place.
What a pleasant surprise for me and my family. I visited MIM during Teacher Aappreciation week and enjoyed free admission and a gift catalog which was of very good quality. We were an all-adult group of 4 and we had a blast! The exhibits were organized by region, and we walked around the world learning about music and history. Some exhibits were interactive videos with audio headsets. We did the self-guided tour. A lot of walking, but there were plenty of seats to take a break. The experience room was a unique place where visitors can try playing all kinds of instruments. The museum restaurant, Cafe Allegro, did not disappoint. We all purchased some unique items in the gift shop. Give yourself plenty of time. Our group spent 5 hours there !
