This page is dedicated to the Mira Mesa High School Orchestras (San Diego, California), including its musicians, families, and community of supporters.
The Mira Mesa Orchestras are part of the larger Performing Arts Department at Mira Mesa High School. Mira Mesa High School is a comprehensive high located within the San Diego Unified School District. In addition to the orchestra program at Mira Mesa (under the direction of Mr. Mulvaney), the Performing Arts Department includes our Mira Mesa Bands (led by Ms. Christensen), Choirs (instructed by Ms. Williams), and Theatre program (under the guidance of Mr. Kriley).
Currently there are three orchestras spread across multiple course sections: Symphony Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, and Debut Strings. Wind and percussion musicians join our strings as repertoire requires in order to perform full orchestra selections.
Sample repertoire performed by our Symphony Orchestra includes the first movement of Franz Schubert's Unfinished Symphony in B Minor, Danzon No. 2 (Arturo Marquez), Credo in E Minor (Antonio Vivaldi), Pavane (Gabriel Faure), and Rumanian Folk Dances (Bela Bartok).
Orchestra musicians at Mira Mesa are exposed to a wide range of music education opportunities, including a variety of large and small ensemble performance opportunities, regular string coaching, and enrichment events.
In an effort to best serve our community and our students, the orchestra program has established relationships with a number of community organizations here in San Diego, including the La Jolla Music Society, the San Diego Symphony, Quartet Nouveau, the Hausmann Quartet, and the San Diego State University School of Music and Dance.
