Mission Recreation Center Boxing

About

2 Hour Boxing Class Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday offered by the SF Recreation and Parks department. A professional program and very inexpensive.

Description

This is my personal page to describe this fantastic & affordable workout I found right here in the Mission. It is all-ages boxing class for beginners and intermediate men or women or teens 14 & up. This two-hour class that includes cardiovascular training, flexibility, high and low abdominal training, stretching and basic boxing moves: proper punching, movement, balance, & blocking. Included is everything you need to get a balanced workout.

The class is instructed by health and fitness professionals from the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, with a focus on proper form, health and safety. You will learn about boxing basics, agility, and technique. Don't worry about fighting or being hit; that will come later. I took this class to add variety to my marathon training, and I know it contributed to completing my first marathon at Lake Tahoe-at 6000 feet above sea level.

Mission

This is part of the San Francisco Recreation Department's mission to offer facilities and education for its residents. This is the most affordable class you will find and the city is also offering scholarships for those that quality, to make it even more affordable.

Products

No special equipment is needed. The center offers a limited number of wraps and gloves. Also provided are jump ropes, heavy punching bags, medicine balls, a regulation ring and all instruction. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting gym clothes. If you choose to take the series of classes, you may elect to purchase hand-wraps or gloves that suit you. The center sells quality hand-wraps for $10. I guess no one works here? I’ve called like 15 times over a couple days and no one is ever around to answer a phone. Online hours are never up to date, guess they expect you to go in anytime you want to see if they are even open.
This place is my new hangout. It's everything you need for a good workout. No lockers and no showers but it's free. Parking can be challenging, but it's far enough of the mission you can usually find a spot
Nice little public gym. Missing lower weight dumbbells.
I’ve been coming here for years! They have everything you need if you need a quick workout, from basketball, to soccer! The even have a weight lifting room, Zumba classes, and boxing! What more could you ask for?
This is a great place to work off the ice cream you just enjoyed at Humprey Slocombe. They have free weights, machines, ping pong, boxing, raquetball and nice music and videos. Just one caveat: don't try to work out in your jeans or topless.
A hidden neighborhood treasure. Gym, boxing, weights, racket ball, ping pong and fitness equipment inside. Beautiful brick, vine-covered walled courtyard between the two buildings. Small play structure.
What? Racquet ball courts yes plural, a boxing ring, indoor basketball, weight gym, ping pong tables, and then some. The best part, its all free.
I go to the GYM there the tools and the machine are good and the best thing it's for free you just have to show them an ID
Free, friendly staff, plenty for strength training, not too much space but overall pretty good.
Very clean and safe place to workout if you have no money all you need is your ID
