The Missouri & Illinois RR Police Association ("M&I") was founded to share and exchange intelligence/law enforcement related information and resources among the various railroad police agencies within the St. Louis Metro area, with respect to transportation and homeland security and safety. Personnel from various federal, local and state agencies are also members of the group, which meets on the second Thursday of each month.
There are nine railroad police agencies that comprise the membership of the organization, which are identified as: Alton & Southern, Amtrak, BNSF, Canadian National-Illinois Central, CSXT, Kansas City Southern, Norfolk Southern, Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis and Union Pacific.
In addition to information exchange and resource sharing, the organization promotes training for various law enforcement officers in Missouri and Illinois, promotes awareness of railroad police, and works to establish cooperative relationships with the federal, state, local agencies and the courts. Members are actively involved in many local and regional issues, including participation in the St. Louis Area Major Case Squad.
On the second Thursday in October (each year), the M&I sponsors relevant training (open to all interested law enforcement agencies) and a law enforcement appreciation banquet. All members of law enforcement (including corrections, courts & crime labs) are invited and encouraged to attend at no cost. The organization is funded by support of the various railroads and local businesses.
2008 marked the 60th anniversary of the organization's founding and the 40th year of the appreciation banquet.
