MLK Westside Coalition
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Westside Coalition is comprised of diverse group of Westside individuals, community organizations, institutions, clergy and businesses. Our main goal is to educate adults and youths, to inspire community participation, and to promote the ideals of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for understanding, knowledge and healing.
Most of our energies are focused on producing a variety of events and activities on the weekend leading up to our Annual MLK Day Celebration in January.
The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Westside Coalition was founded in 1985 as a community partnership with the City of Santa Monica, Santa Monica College, the Westside Interfaith Council, Neighborhood Resource Development Corporation, the NAACP Santa Monica-Venice Branch, Temple Beth Shir Sholom, NCCJ and others. We now include more than 40 community partners that embrace Dr. King’s vision of a worldwide community, which respects and values all people. Please help us press toward realizing Martin's vision of world peace, social and economic justice, and nonviolent action to counter racism, sexism and intolerance.
Our Mission is to organize and convene an annual celebration to commemorate the legacy and work of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and other activities throughout the year, which will advance and promote his philosophies and educate the public about his teachings.
