About:

The first official fire service for the Town of Mooresville, was in 1877 when a Board appointed a Fire Warden to inspect businesses, and extinguish fires. In 1905, the first official Town Fire Department was started, along with town water wells, fire plugs, and hose carts. In 1923, the first motorized fire truck was purchased. The first Career Firefighter was hired in 1975. Since then the town, the department, and service provided has grown, and advanced greatly. Most of all, our department takes great pride in serving our town for over 100 years!

The Mooresville Fire Department has 15 full-time Career and 23 part-time employees, with full staff being 6 personnel on duty 24 hours a day. All our personnel are certified at a minimum, as Firefighter's and are Medically certified as EMT's or Paramedic's by the State of Indiana. The 3 Admin Chief Officers have take home vehicles, and are usually on-call to respond to necessary calls after normal office hours, if available.

The new fire station was built in 2009, located near State Road 67 & 144. The firehouse holds, 1 2003 medium rescue, 1 1994 100ft Ladder Truck, and 3 engines, with the newest being a 2008. Our coverage area is approximately 6 square miles, and we respond to an average of 1,700 calls per year.
All our employees are trained extensively in different areas of the fire and rescue service. All have gone through federal and state requirements, NIMS, and technical rescue disciplines including water rescue, confined space, vehicle & machinery operations, wild land firefighting, rope rescue, trench rescue, building collapse, hazardous material operations & technician, RIT, Truck company & Engine company operations, and numerous safety and incident command courses. We log an average of 8,000 man hours of training per year.
Our department is represented on various boards including, Mooresville school safety board, St Francis Hospital safety board, and the county-wide 911 board. Mooresville Fire Department is active with Mooresville's school system and the recreational sport leagues.

Since 2011, we have offered community CPR/AED courses, which many local businesses, churches, schools, daycare's, parks dept, Morgan County Sheriff Dept, and many others have taken advantage of.
With all our activities, we have continued to be mindful of the current financial woes that face organizations like ours. We have taken an aggressive approach to finding alternate methods of funding and sharing our resources and ability's to help our fellow town departments. Currently, the fire department and the Mooresville Park's Department joined efforts to replace defibrillators, and continue our CPR programs for employees and the community through a local grant, with a plan to sustain this program. We have partnered up with the school corporation in buying fuel and having their mechanics perform our preventive maintenance on our fire equipment. These are just a few examples of our strategies to function under budget downfalls.
Currently the Town of Mooresville contracts our ambulance and paramedic service from Brown Twp Fire & EMS. As of 2013, our department finalized a non-transport ALS service, that will provide a paramedic on our fire engine. This will be a supplement to Brown Twp, if their service is out or assisting another agency.
Currently, the Mooresville Fire Department holds a Class 5 rating from the Insurance Services Office (ISO) . This rating helps many insurance companies establish the rates for fire insurance on many residence and businesses through out our response area. The Class 5 rating we hold, is the best rating in Morgan County. Areas just outside of the Town of Mooresville are rated higher, and in many times paying 500.00 dollars or more each year in homeowners premiums.
