I recently had my baby delivered at this hospital. I had a C-section and the amount of care I received was disappointing. The day nurses seemed to never want to help and get annoyed when I would for help. The night nurses were amazing and very helpful. Wished it was a better experience
My rating is for the Children’s hospital section of the ER. Arrived at 6:30pm on a weekday with my 10 month old. It was pretty quiet there so we got triaged immediately and sent over to peds. We waiting only maybe 15 minutes to get called in for vitals and to be taken to a room. The nurse came in and took more info and immediately the doctor was in and evaluated my daughter and ordered medicine and test etc. it was really quick and everyone was great with my baby. We got what we needed and were out of there I think by 9pm. Had to take off one star only for our experience with the X-ray room. My baby was sick and irritable and when I needed to hold her still on the table it was extremely difficult to keep her perfectly still- babies are strong ! The tech was pretty aggressive with her tone and yelling at me I wasn’t holding her right and we have to do it again because I’m not holding her right etc. which I didn’t really know what I was doing I’ve never done that before! Meanwhile my child is hysterical and people yelling definitely doesn’t help calm anyone. Once we got it done I started crying myself I just felt so overwhelmed from that experience and bad for my baby. But I will give the benefit of the doubt that maybe the tech was overwhelmed with the loud crying herself. I think a lot of the negative reviews are for the wait times which luckily we didn’t have but I believe a lot of people in the state come to this ER because the hospital is well rated thus the overcrowded ness.
Dr Whitman saved my life and I thank you for everything. You are an excellent surgeon and you care about family members as well. My nurse aide Andrea. You are the best Jamaican Sister I could have asked for. If it wasn’t for you I would have still been sitting in that chair. You are the best and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Love ya Lisa. Needless to say my stay was wonderful. All nurses and staff tended to my needs. I gave them a 5 out of 5.
Less than impressed with the bad attitudes of the ER staff and ER doctor who seemed to know everything but was very wrong. It was an extremely busy day so I’d like to think that was the cause of these issues but with the way they brushed off my husbands intense stomach issues, I won’t be returning anytime in the near future.
I cannot begin to fully explain how disappointed I am with the emergency room department, the level of disgust I have. This hospital was always known for excelling in care... well, those days are surely over. To start, the chairs in the emergency room were shredded. The room was dark. I asked the triage nurse for an ice pack, and was told she would get it in a "few minutes". A few minutes later, she packed up her things, looked me in the eye, and then left. I overheard her mention that her shift was over, prior to this. Once I was called back to a "room", after an hour wait, I was taken to a bed in a hallway. The person in the bed next to me told me that he had been called back 6 hours prior, and had yet to see a doctor. Another person, three beds down chimed in and said he had been there for 7 hours. I prefer privacy, but clearly, you're not going to find any, in this hospital. Finally, a doctor showed up and performed a minor hand surgery stitches in the bed next to me... entirely out in the open. I couldn't believe my eyes, I was horrified. My husband then pointed out to me that there was blood splattered on the floor around us. We were then moved to another bed in a different hallway. Shortly after, a man ripped his IV out of his arm and went to use a phone, bleeding all over the phone, desk and floor below. He was told to go back to his bed, and a few nurses wiped up some of the blood with napkins. They called in for a clean-up crew, which arrived five minutes later. Unfortunately, within this amount of time, a man walked over near the phone and put a drink down on the table that just had another man's blood on it. My husband and I called out to the man not to put his drink down, but none of the nearby nurses even cared to stop the man. My experience was absolutely horrifying. I cannot believe how terrible the healthcare system has become. On top of how awful this experience was - the lack of privacy, the bodily fluids... the bill for sitting in a hallway was almost $2,000.00... and this doesn't even include the treatment I received. I truly hope that the operations manager of the hospital will make some serious changes. I can't believe this is what Morristown Medical Center has become.
This hospital should be ashamed of the conditions in the ER. I was visiting a family member yesterday at this facility. While I understand it’s an old building, there are hundreds of patients lined up in beds touching in the hallway. So much for patient privacy. There is no privacy. A screen that’s open during treatments doesn’t suffice. I am a nurse. I find this appalling. They claim to be a top medical center. Maybe in other areas. I’ve had family members have good surgical experience but this? How does this pass inspection? While most staff are knowledgeable, friendly and really try their best, I think some feel they know it all on subjects they have no clue. They kind of guess what to do, while time ticks on by. Hours and hours spent wasted. You could travel across the globe in the time it takes to get out of there. Lesson is; never believe what medical centers claim to be. See it with your own eyes. I will never go here for an emergency again. I will drive a few minutes extra to Saint Barnabas.
If you have a big family, don’t go there to have a baby. The hospital restricts number of visitors. Only two visitors are allowed. We were a group of four. When two were visiting the new mother. The other two had to sit in the lobby, were allowed to enter Starbucks, nor cafeteria.
From a nightmare to answered prayers… this describes my wife and I experience with labor and delivery. While my wife experienced terrible blood loss, my simple prayer was “Bend down and hear my prayer O merciful God, rescue and comfort us.” I don’t know how many times I uttered this phrase, all I know is that the prayer was answered through one person, RN Katherine Borja. Her empathy and willingness to be there for us in our time of need made us feel as if God had “made His face shine upon us and gave us peace.” Patient outlook in the type of situation we were in is primordial to patient recovery. Beyond the surgeon, Katherine was one of the most important people in turning our nightmare into an answered cry for help from the LORD. No doubt that if she were in the military, she should be commended for a Medal of Honor for going above and beyond her call of duty. Thank you Katherine and awesome staff at Morristown Medical Center.
I would give less than one if possible - Husband CHF stage 4 went to Sameth ER for care because this hospital came recommended. In a nut shell, I am at a loss to understand how this facility obtains the ratings that it does with the poor care provided. While we waited twelve hours, arrived at 7am- saw doctor at 9am never saw a doctor again. His telemetry, ECG, O2 saturation were not hooked up for over 4 hours and no one even noticed. I was waiting to see how long it would take them and not one person came in. Of course, the nursing staff and tech tried to blame the lack of care, compassion or concern on the fact that a patient had coded but that occurred at 5pm so what was the explanation for the hours between 7am and 5pm? Additionally, he was to get a nebulizer treatment every 6 hours- received on at noon - we asked again and it was never provided. He was never given even water after 1pm even though it was requested from the PCT. When we requested to be released and to leave the hospital we were aggressively and unprofessionally treated by a nurse who in fact ignored us and walked away when we requested wheelchair support. I requested the name of the nursing supervisor, again ignored, and then for the hospital administrator that must be available for after hours urgent situations and was not given this information either. It was not until I got to ER registration on my way out that two of the nurses there tried to help and provided me the phone number for patient experience. A message was left on the number provided. This care is shameful and treatment of other human beings so poor that I cannot comprehend it truly. Sent message to patient experience requesting a response and no one even bothered to get back to me-
Such a pleasant experience here in the ER. Loved waiting in a queue with 8+ people for over 12 hours for a simple CT Scan and X-ray. Doctor forgot to put my pain management order in. But hey, at least I got my vitals taken 27 times in the waiting room.
