Fantastic site for pioneer treks. Rivals Martin's Cove. The missionaries are wonderful and the overall experience went smoothly and will always be remembered.
This was such a fun experience! Where there a number of different places that you can go to "experience pulling a handcart", this was close enough to us in Salt Lake to run down and spend the day trying our luck with handcarts. There is a nice big sign as you drive on Redwood road that makes it very easy to know where to turn in, and then about 2 miles down a dirt road to the green building and you have arrived! Once there the missionaries welcomed our group which they were nice enough to host us for a single day instead of the regular 3-5 day "TREK" that everyone does, and showed us a video about the trek that the mormon pioneers did and some of the suffering and experiences that they had. From there we loaded up and started the trek through brush, mud, mosquitos, and the occasional road! The carts they provided were very sturdy and you figure out pretty quick that you better keep the kids away from the wheels and how to position your weight in the cart to get maximum "push/pull". Overall a great experience that warranted 5-Stars except for at the very end one of the workers dog was barking at us and our kids and became pretty aggressive - NOT COOL.
This place is a great re-creation of the original Pioneer trek. Great for youth of all ages.
So the mission and purpose are great, and I am still working on my understanding of walking kids in circles.
I have been here all week! Getting Spiritual feed and I love Mosida
Our Church did a Pioneer Re-enactment here. The missionaries were fabulous! Their stories and knowledge about Utah Pioneers was great. The terrain is mostly flat, a lot of very fine, lake bed dust, regular wind, hot, and very little shade. It's the terrain that makes me give it 4 stars instead of 5. Of course, it was a Pioneer Trek, so heat, dust and wind were all part of the experience. It would have just been nice to have a little shade at the campsite. They have a lot of young trees planted, so in a few years, that will be better.
Great option for the youth in your ward to experience a trek at a closer and more budget friendly location. The missionaries here ensure your youth have a great experience on the SW shore of Utah Lake. They adapt many of the crossing plains stories for their location. Just be aware of the copious presence of mosquitos and other biting insects at night. Parking is somewhat limited to keep the youth in the trek frame of mind. Egress is not difficult.
Reserve a spot for your LDS youth group or family to experience a three Day Treck, just like the Willie & Martin Handcart Companies in 1856. Run by service missionaries. Great place. Trek travels about 22 miles in three days. Principle of faith, charity, hard work, and much more are taught.
Our youth really surprised me. They exceeded all my expectations. It was a difficult challenge for all. I was surrounded by the future leaders of our saints. A very humbling experience for me and my wife Kerry. I'm grateful for having this opportunity to work with our younger brothers and sisters.
The missionaries were so nice and helpful. We went to check out the location so we could be ready for trek. They met us at the lodge so they could answer any questions we had and then let us stay the night in our motorhome.
