Every time I try to pack up and leave it just gets more beautiful and I have to stay. I have stayed at multiple sites in the park this summer. All became home for a few days. This park is well maintained, and I do feel quite safe staying here alone or with my grandchildren. Children are able to play freely. Adults are able to relax and have a good time. People are friendly when you encounter them, but no one bothers you and you have plenty of privacy. I like that the garbage dumpsters are kept out of the camping area, because they always smell bad as dumpsters always do. The bathrooms are well maintained. The latrines are actually not that bad considering that they ARE latrines. I always bring my own cleaning supplies wherever I am anyway just in case I have to use them. I really never have problems with bugs out here. I see more bugs in my back yard than I have at this park .I put alcohol in my bathing water and it repels the few that are here at dusk. There is every sort of camping areas here. There are deep woods, wide open, near the water, combinations of all of the above. It really is wonderful to be in this park and never get tired of the same scene. The staff and volunteers are always friendly and helpful and courteous. Campers in my opinion always seem to be happy calm and peaceful people. I do love this park. I am an older lady on disability, so money is always a concern. The prices to stay in the campgrounds are very reasonable. Camping here makes a nice fairly inexpensive holiday any time of the year. P.S. some of the photos got chopped off while posting them.. They were much prettier than they look here. Lol
We stayed in Camping Area 2 at site 206. My sister and her family stayed at 207. These sites were amazing! Huge and spacious and tons of shade. We actually were bummed that they weren't closer since we were camping together. The in-camp bathrooms are some of the worst I've ever seen. No running water and gates for doors, basically, with no locks. Better than going in the woods, but even that's debatable. The shower house we went to was great, though. There was no hot water in the showers at one point, assuming because it was a holiday weekend. I also really hated having to walk down that main road of the campground to get anywhere. I'm sure it's because it was Labor Day weekend but I was very uncomfortable walking through there with kids and dogs. Everyone was driving slow and going around us, but kids are unpredictable so it made me really nervous. I also didn't love having to drive to the beach. I see why the barriers are there seeing the traffic just in the campground, but again, there's nowhere that feels safe to walk from the campground to the beach. The nature play area was amazing and so was the beach playground. We'd come back to the campground just for those two things. We'd probably try to camp in Camping Area 1 though to be closer to the play area. The staff at the store was incredibly friendly too. Overall it was an awesome stay, I just didn't love the holes in the ground or the walking conditions. I'm sure we'll be back!
Mostly good. The beach area includes: large dog park, nice playground, 18 hole disk golf course, and several picnic tables and grills. The beach itself has large sandy area and plenty of grass to lay out your towels and chairs. Very family friendly; well patrolled by sheriffs and ODNR police at least on the weekends; I'd be sure to leave the beer at home and have a current fishing license. Unfortunately the water can be plauged with vegetation and the visibility can be murky. My son didn't mind and we made a game of tossing the algae/seaweed?? at eachother. But, this could impact your beach experience if you're expecting clear water. The campground is affordable and nicely maintained. Numerous wooded lots with electrical hookups to choose from. There are handful of waterfront and water view sites. Most bathrooms are vault style and could use a top to bottom power wash. There are two shower houses that are clean and well maintained one is very new. The area is very family friendly and well patrolled. The fellow campers were friendly and respectful; no heavy parties, loud music, shouting, or drunken mischief. Add a couple more updated bathrooms and this will campground gets a 5 star.
I drove through to look at their campground. This is a very nice campground and they have a lot of spaces many of them are along the lake. And they have some beautiful yurts I am definitely staying here in the future. Dog-friendliness: Dogs are allowed at the campground but not in the yurts.
I love this place. It is really close from what i stay. There are small beach to swim but unfortunately there is not cold water to avoid the hot weather also little dirty. Nevertheless, the atmosphere is really cozy and good to spend some time.
Limited supplies at the store, but we didn't come to shop...we came to camp, and this park does not disappoint. All the camp sites are roomy and seem well planed so you have privacy...we think the best we've visited to date regarding layout and thoughtful planning. No full hookups on the lake which is probably due to septic system expense...weird that there are no dumpsters that we could find around the park, and they have 'latrines' that only if I had to go and that was the only option, would I use. They do have wash rooms which appear to be a real flushable toilet, shower room but they are few in number it appeared...once I saw that and the lack of rubbish areas I downgraded the park to a 4, nonetheless the park is roomy and we will be back. Back on 2022...park is awesome and we so far still enjoy it!
We camped there. The lake is very large with lots to do! Loved the whole weekend!! The camp sites are very well kept, the showering house else is clean and so are the bathrooms. It is crowded though! And children were every where and often without parental/adult supervision. Small children on bikes with training wheels were riding in the road alone! A child protective services worker could get a full caseload in one night!
Great lake for fishing and boating. A lot of great memories and overall just a nice place to spend the day on the water.
There is a really cool wooden playground at the park. We were hoping to walk on the story book trail but the mulch was a little too much for our basic stroller to handle. We will be back once the weather changes with our more durable stroller.
Great area, but seemingly awful management. Ohio residents should demand better park management for such a beautiful place. Restrooms absolutely disgusting and in disrepair. Campground gouging residents by selling 4 pieces of bark for 6 dollars to families for a camp fire. We have camped there many times to go on the lake but was offended by park gouging the people and not taking proper care of the PEOPLES land that they are entrusted with
